Thursday I finally got the courage to take my math placement to get back into school and placed high enough to where I don't have to retake my last math class! So I start school in April starting with one class English 105 I think is what it is. Hopefully have the summer off & start a full qrtr in the fall in my schools culinary program which is nationally recognized :) Feels good to be a student even though I haven't started yet.

Years ago, I returned to graduate school after a 5 year break. I remeber how hard it was to give up a full-time job to return to school.

Congratulations for having the courage & determination to go after something you really want!

Thanks evryone for the kind words. I hope to be done of the best in the class come fall. And also hope to add cooking on my list of things I'll be able to do well afer a few quarters & offer it as an option for those that might want an over night. The uniform would consist of a wife beater, jockstrap & apron :)

It is always invigorating to start learning something new, but the initial excitement probably won't last--that's when you need to buckle down and keep working at it. It sounds like you are starting in a degree program at a community college--why else would you be required to take math and English to learn to be a chef?--so you will probably feel frustrated at times by requirements to take courses that seem irrelevant to your goal. Relax and look at them as opportunities to learn something that you would have missed in a single-minded vocational course, and remember that if you decide later to change careers again, it will be useful to already have a degree to build on.
