Alex Rodriguez showed that he is going to be strong in the post-season as he hit a dramatic game tying home run in what was one of the most exciting games of the season. Alex's bubble butt rounded the bases to the excitement of the crowd. The Twins came back to load the bases with no outs, but surprisingly were unable to score. This left the bottom of the 11th to the other Yankee hunk, Mark Texeira, to hit a game-winning home run, the 37th time this season that the Yankees have come from behind to win walk-off games.

If you're a fan of bubble butts, this post season allows you to see A-rod in his tight uniform showing great glutes and stallion thighs. Am I getting carried away? No- I am not! :p See for yourself Sunday night.

Well! As I type this I am still on a high from last night's game! A classic if there ever was one!!!!

Now with all due respect to A Rod's "A Butt". Mark Teixeira is the real deal on the team... and especially when covered with whipped cream in traditional Yankee fashion after his walk-off home run in the 11th inning.

As John Sterling the radio voice of the NY Yankee's would say, "You're on the "Mark" Teixeira!

(Now I can only imagine what Suzyn Waldman (Sterling's radio partner) attempted to do to him during her Club House Report... Hmmmm...)

Wonders

Hijacking my own thread, I am wondering about the gambling that is involved with playoffs. We know that millions are at stake, and then, when an umpire makes a really bad call, one wonders. Last night Joe Mauer hit a line drive that should have been a double, but the left field umpire called it foul. It was fair by 2 or 3 feet, so there is just no logical reason for his call.

Then you see players miss balls or make errors that they shouldn't have, and you wonder. Is it just playoff pressure?

Then there is Detroit's top player, Miguel Cabrera, staying out all night on the Friday of the biggest baseball weekend Detroit had all year. His wife called 911 at 6 am with a domestic dispute, and he blew a 2.6. This when his team really needed him to be at top form. He went 0 for 11 Saturday and Sunday as Detroit was on its way to blowing their once seven game lead.

Despite all of this, I am betting that this year we will see some great playoff games, and hopefully the eyes of the country will be keeping everything fair and square.

I left the game on tv to eat dinner, and returned expecting to see the Angels/Red Sox broadcast, but instead walked in just in time to see Texeira's 11th inning home run. I wish he still played for the Angels (of course, they are winning without him anyway, but he still was a pleasure to look at).

Lucky-

I am glad you mentioned the bad call by the post season umpire who was only about 20 feet away. Not only did he miss the ball hitting fair on the ground, he missed the LF touching the ball while in fair territory. However, I completely agree with your hope that we will be thrilled or at least satisfied with this year's MLB playoffs and championships. I have rooted part time for the Yankees since before MM and I don't mean our poster. :)

Charlie-

Don't forget Texeira played for ATL between LAA and NYY. I hated to see the Braves trade him but that is there decided history and they still do as well as they do in spite of such trades.

Pssst! Anyone want tickets for the Rockies game tonight? I hear it's going to be a really cool game.

It's 19 degrees there now:

  • Today: Snow showers this morning becoming more scattered later. Cold. High 28F. Winds ESE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 60%.

Any baseball fan should read "As They See 'Em: A Fan's Travels in the Land of Umpires" -- you'll walk away with a different perspective on those bad calls, and on the game in general.

It's a fun read if you enjoy baseball.

Burrrrr...

...The season should be over by the end of September...

Well that ain't the case... and to ad insult to injury the new ball park in Minnesota that is slated to open next season is not a domed edifice! That they would opt for an al fresco stadium is beyond belief!

It is crazy to not have an enclosed stadium in MSP but I surmise that the taxpayers got tired of footing the bill. MLB, in most venues, has gotten economically completely out of hand. Only those will lots of discretionary income can afford to go to these games any more, perhaps other than as a special treat. Other sports are just as bad.

baseball expenses

Agreed. There was a time not too long ago that I bought a ticket package for the Yanks -split with other folks at work - and went to about ten games over the course of the season. But they increased the minimum number of games in a package and jacked up the prices so high that I let it drop. And this year, for the first time in many years, I didn't go to any NY Yankees games. But I did go to see the Staten Island Yankees (minor league) play a few times. Nice ferry ride to the cute little ballpark that is right next to the ferry terminal, reasonable ticket prices, great views from anywhere in the park, and the food is even a bit cheaper than in the big stadium - if not gourmet fare. And the young minor league players are HOT, HOT, HOT! The boy-watching in the stands ain't bad, either.

Amen. The ticket prices are so out of control that MLB just isn't worth going to any more. Once, when I was on vacation and not near a major league stadium, I went to see the local minor league play, and it was a revelation of what baseball could be like. Very good talent (both playing and watching, haha), seats close to the field and with unobstructed views, and a happy mood among the fans. Uwsman, have you checked out the Brooklyn Cyclones down in Coney Island? Same vibe as the S.I. Yankees experience. A great time.

Well my thinking is IF you can afford "Met Opera Season Tickets" ..$100 for a "Frank with a Yank" ain't No Biggie! :D

As someone around here can attest to! ;)

P.S. The Brooklyn Cyclones are a Great Deal..where else can you get a Ball Game and go to the Beach?
