"I share this not to draw attention or sympathy; rather I think our Baby Boom Generation needs to come to terms with aging and death, and to talk about it open and honestly. I just want to do my part in that regard. :) Death, after all, is a part of life, and as one buddy recently reminded me, "We don't get out of this alive."

Ombra mai fu di vegetabile cara ed amabile

I hope you find your peace and rest at a beautiful spot like this song sings about.

Ombra Mai fu

Ombra mai fù

di vegetabile,

cara ed amabile,

soave più.

Never has there been a shade

of a plant

more dear and lovely,

or more gentle.

Among the Liberal Lions

I am today Stunned - Shocked and Saddened to Learn that NCM has passed.

This on top of learning this morning that a life long dearly loved friend has Primary Liver Cancer I am crestfallen.

If there is an afterlife then NCM is chatting with other Liberal Lions like- Teddy, Eugene,

Adalai, Hubert and George - unapologetic for standing with the consumer, the uninsured,

the poor, the unemployed, the unionist, the middle class, the aged and all the other

members of society who are marginalized, disenfranchised and kept from the promise of

equality that is emblazoned on the momuments and founding documents of this nation.

NCM was a true believer - a true patriot and a true unabashed Liberal in a world where

such an admission is in itself sufficient cause for vilification.

Personally I can think of few if any greater compliments than to attribute the title Liberal

to a man who lived his principles

LIBERAL - favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.

- noting or pertaining to a political party advocating measures of progressive political reform.

-favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.

. favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.

- of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.

- free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward others.

-open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.

- characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts: a liberal donor.

- given freely or abundantly; generous: a liberal donation.

-not strict or rigorous; free; not literal: a liberal interpretation of a rule.

-of, pertaining to, or befitting a freeman.

– a person of liberal principles or views, esp. in politics or religion.

You will be missed NCM - Peace to those who loved you

It seems you did know him

Only thru email communication.

I was saddened and shocked when I received this e-mail as a response to my message for good wishes and prompt recovery over Thanksgiving.

Ncm and I had a little "difference" on the Board a year or so ago, which we resolved pleasantly with some emails. Good guy. He told me he liked to relax on the dock at the back of his house, on one of those 10,000 lakes. Sounds like a nice way to live.

"For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy chap 4 v 6&7 I can think of few people to whom that quote applies more than ncm... :(

I'll miss you bud. The world's a poorer place without you.

SNAP SNAP to ncm..........

Not to be blunt, but this news really sucks.

I will not extinguish the cyber-candle that was lit to lead ncm back to us, but will keep it burning in memory of the passion he brought to his life, and that he shared with us.

May the memory of ncm's spirit-- his strong desire to create an even-better world-- provide us with his strength to press for change when and where we find it needed. In that way, he will live on.

In keeping with another post from this week, a song I hope ncm liked.

RIP to a caring soul.

One week after he started this thead, he made a short post that said, in effect, "it's time to say so long." I suspected at the time that he had learned in that week that his prospects were poorer than he had originally thought, bad as those were. The lack of any further posts from him led me to believe that he had likely passed away.

Many who have contributed here over the years have left without choosing to say goodbye or having a chance to do so. It was good of NCM to let this community know what he was facing.

I know

I used to read his passionate posts everyday even though it was a short period of time for me. He left a lasting impression. He will be missed.

Having only recently decided to visit here again from time to time (to the apparent consternation of some ;)), I have had little chance to become acquainted with your posts. What I have seen, however, leads me to believe that you are a very positive force here in the Message Center. I look forward to reading more of your own posts as time goes by.

I am sorry to read of NCM's passing. I enjoyed our discussions on many topics of mutual interest over the years. My understanding was that he resided in Minnesota and I recall he once alluded to some Canadian roots. We often were on the same wave-length on issues and sometimes differed but I remember all our exchanges as pleasant dialogue (perhaps that is donning my rose-tinted lenses)!

News of his decease at least provides us with closure on his participation on this board and we know his silence is not one of disapproval but rather something beyond his control. May he rest in peace.

PK: You know me, I can't shut up without an answer.

As for your fears, I suggest planning ahead, ala George Burns who was booked at The Paladium on his 100th birthday. :D Maybe try this: Plan an event (maybe a 75th Birthday), and spend the next few weeks/years making it happen. Call it your Party of The Year, and by God, have FUN. Good Music, Good Food and Good Wine. Celebrate the fact that you couldn't do that when you were 25, but you can now. And, dance your ass off. :D

So long, PK. And, Goddamnit it, DANCE!!!!!!! :D

Before this thread disappears into the ether, I wanted to post the last post of NCM one more time. Good advice from a good fellow.

I share this not to draw attention or sympathy; rather I think our Baby Boom Generation needs to come to terms with aging and death, and to talk about it open and honestly. I just want to do my part in that regard. :)

For me that was the essence of ncm: earnest, decent and determined to do the right thing. I'm thankful that he gave me the chance to say goodbye before he left and I hope our response was a comfort to him.

I should thank the rest of you guys also for your thoughtful posts. You helped me deal with this matter in a constructive way.

Ncm was the only person I have ever met from this site, who also hires guys. When I first started hiring around 5 yrs ago, he sent me an email in regards to a query I had about an escort in msp. We exhcanged email and phone calls for over a 3yr period. I remember the first time we met for lunch. I was fairly new to the site, and never really followed the political sect. So I never knew about how passionate he was about things. He let me go on for about 10 mins before I asked him what he thought about the subject(gulf war). He told me he really didn't want to get into it, and we changed the subject to something else. About a year later, I started reading more of the political forums and found out how passionate he was in his views. I asked him about our first meeting and why he didn't take me to task for my views, and his reply was something I will never forget. "It would have been improper of me to insult my host for being a moronic idiot". What class he had. Rest in peace NCM.

I wish that I could have known you better and that we could have kept you with us much longer. You were clearly a class act and will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Friend.
