Just bumping this back up. Was looking for a picture of the dog they rescued in the Baltic Sea on an ice floe 65 miles from where he was first seen floating on the ice floe down a river, but I could not find one.

A loophole in the Fur Products Labeling Act means that a vast quantity of clothing made with less than $150 worth of real fur goes unlabeled in the U.S.

This is bad news for consumers and animals alike — without proper labeling, it is nearly impossible for a person to tell the difference between a product containing real fur or faux fur. One investigation found 96% of a nationwide sample of fur-trimmed jackets, purchased from well-known retailers, contained fur from domestic dogs, wolves, or raccoon dogs.

Don't let retailers deceive the public. Take action & spread the word — call for truth in advertising today!

Who knew? In China there is a species of canid bred specifically for its desirable fur characteristics. Its English name is raccoon dog because of its markings but it not a raccoon any more than a dogfish is a dog.

 

After being called out, Macys pulled all items made with dog fur but apparently Pennys merely marked over the raccoon fur label and put them back on the shelf. Given how Americans feel about their dogs, it's hard to imagine a major retailer insisting on its right to sell dog fur but there it is.
