`Golden Girls' star Bea Arthur dies at 86

By LYNN ELBER

LOS ANGELES (AP) —

It's really sad news, but for Daddy's sake, let's not copy and paste entire AP stories here. The AP has been going after blogs, citing copyright infringement, for quoting even small passages from their stories.

UPDATE: Thanks for changing it to a link, EXPAT. I think that's always the safest way to go.

R.I.P. Bea

Her passing is sad, but dying peacefully at age 86 with your family around you is not the worst way to go either...

Her Passing is Sad..Truly Sad.. But as was said A Long and very fulfilled Life was I am sure..a Very Happy Life for Bea Arthur.

Thanks for the laughs Bea.

Amen! A very funny woman. Impeccable timing. She once said, "I've done everything but stag movies and rodeos."

Maybe in my dreams tonight.

I'm not sure I would say that dying at 86 is sad. It's natural, after all, since we are all going to go, sooner or later. It's the sooner cases that are sad, when people are cut down in the prime of life for whatever reason. When you are old and ill, as Bea Arthur was, you are probably glad to have the curtain come down for the last time.

That being said, Bea Arthur gave me many laughs and she had a unique talent. The line I loved her most for was "I want it all" in the Maude series, when she was trying to balance a nascent political career and her family life. She spoke for a generation of women but she made the dilemma sound so human.

I totally agree.

I think most will agree that Bea Arthur was a beloved actress. Not to rain on her parade of adulation, but there are those in the business who would say she was a fiesty, difficult and often mean woman. Still, she will be fondly remembered for roles as Maude and Dorothy.

I met Bea once at a nightclub here in NYC. She came in with two friends and sat at a table across the room. My BF was sitting with his back to them. I clutched his hand very tightly when I saw her. "Bea's here!" I exclaimed and said "We have to meet her!"

I watched her during the show. Actor/singer Tom Wopat was performing. She kept ordering martinis throughtout the show and she must have put down at least four or five by the time it ended.

The BF and I made a beeline for the entrace and stood at the bar waiting for her to come out. She did, a bit tipsy. I immediate approached her and politely asked if we could take a photo with her. She adamantley declined but we started up a conversation. I can only say she related one of the dirtiest and funiest conversations I have ever heard and it ended with Bea pulling up her top, pointing to her crotch, and referring to it as her "twat!" She was one of a kind!

Thought about it, Lucky, but didn't have the time to post it then. She was quite a character and I will never, ever, forget that encounter. The BF still has nightmares! LOL

Bea Arthur

The best for me was when Bea was asked about all the supposed animosity on the Golden Girls set(including the shitting in Betty White's trailer legend)...her only response: "It was NEVER as bad as Laverne & Shirley."
