Well, this not only applies to Splash Bar but to any club where dancing takes place.

BE CAREFUL WHO'S TOUCHING YOU.

Last Wednesday night while talking with some friends at Splash Bar, a patron comes up to me from behind and starts "dancing" with me. He had his hands all over me and eventually moved on when I showed no interest. Shortly after that I left the club. When I arrived at the train station, I reached into my pocket for my ticket and, low and behold, all my money was gone. I had been pick-pocketed by this individual.

I spoke with some police officers at the train station and told them (embarassingly) what had happened. They gave me the number and location for the local precinct and suggested I file a report just in case a similar situation occurs and a lineup take place. I also called the club and spoke to the owner. He tried to be very helpful and started a search for this individual. Unfortunately, by now the patron was long gone and enjoying a good time at my expense.

I'm lucky that it was only my pocket cash he took, not my wallet. My anger was more with myself for being so stupid by allowing this individual to play around with me.

After sharing this story with other patrons, I heard one horror story after another about being robbed at clubs. It easy to get caught up with the excitement of the night, but strangers showing a strong interest in touch you just might have something else on their minds.

Hope this reminder helps.

"Any desciption on this individual Cooper?"

Glutes...A good description was given to the owner of Splash. Fortunately, there was someone still at the bar who could ID this guy. They looked but didn't find him, however, the owner said the only thing he could do is ban him from entering... Just be on guard if someone suddenly shows an active interest in you and starts feeling you up... Btw, in the rest rooms at Splash there are signs up warning you to watch your wallets. I guess this is an on going problem.

Unfortunately, the same thing happened to me in Detroit about 5 years ago at an after-hours gay/bi-sexual bar called Numbers.

Two females started "dancing" with me very aggressively. One of them literaly jumped on me and wrapped her arms and legs around me so I couldnt see what was going on below my waist, while her partner in crime emptied out my wallet.

I had just withdrew $200 since it was a Friday night and payday.

Anyways, they two females immediately left after 60-seconds of this unsolicited "freak-dancing". It wasnt until I went to purchase a drink about five minutes later that I noticed all my cash was gone...all $200!

Atleast they were "nice" enough to put my wallet back in my pocket witch contained all my id's and credit cards.

Now, I usually walk the streets with one hand over my "wallet pocket" and when I go to clubs I have that chain that connects to my wallet/belt, but even in this case it wouldnt have made a difference.

$200 is a lot to lose.

I AGGRESIVELY refuse to let anyone jump on me or touch me unsolicited in any way.

Pick-pocketing is more common than people think. As you said, it can also be very embarassing.

TBL: thanks for sharing your pick-pocketing story. The more people I talk to, the more stories I'm hearing, especially about Splash Bar. You'd think with all the security guards they have working there they'd be doing a better job at protecting their patrons, especially when they know their patterns of behavior.

Glutes, you're correct about having your gov't id scanned before entering the club, but unless you know the name of the individual who's pick-pocketed you, I don't think it's going to do any good. I'm not sure about catching this on their security cameras, I'll inquire when I talk with the owner.

As TBL said, it's an expensive lesson to learn, but I too won't let any stranger approach me like this again.

Well, it looks like Club Avalon, was shut down again. This time on failure to have the proper C of O for the building. The building is the old christian church at the corner of 6th Ave and 20th St. I guess God isn't pleased with what's going on inside.

Cooper, this sort of thing has been going on for as long as I have been going to gay clubs (more than 40 years). I learned years ago to keep my ID and most of my money in my socks, and just a few dollars in my pockets--and be very suspicious of anyone groveling at my feet.

Cooper..I'm sure he isn't... BUT "Picking of the Pocket" is an OLD Club Story also.

This Open & Close Scenario goes way back...Even when "The Church" First Opened as a Club, MANY EONS AGO Now!

You would think after many Millions of Bucks, Passing thru the Chapel... They would at least make it LOOK like a Former "House of Something" on the Outside! Maybe that's why he is Pissed Off? LOL

One of the worst stories I heard was from a visiting member who had picked up a working boy at one of NY's bars. He brought him back to the hotel, undressed, went to the bathroom and, before he could flush, hears the door slam. Both his wallet and working boy were gone.

These stories serve as good reminders as to what could happen if we let our guard down.

Recently, one of the nicest dancers at the 20 Club had $300 stolen from his bag by another dancer. Even with a highly paid "bag watcher" on duty, these things still happen.

Do you let your wallet go unattended with any stranger?

Splash Bar has responded...

Large signs now greet the customers as they enter the bar.

WARNING TO PATRONS, WATCH OUT FOR PICK POCKETERS

LOL..Reminds me of the ANNOUNCEMENT The Guy who ran the elevator Up, in the After Hours..The Barn on 14th...One of the Best After Hours Ever! He Used to Yell Out "Loud and Clear"..Gentlemen Watch Your Wallets...

In those days, when some guy Pulled your pants down, and relieved you of your wallet, in the process, at least you got a Decent Blow Job for it! Those were the Good Ole Days! LOL :p :P :p

JT...The way the doorman at the 20 Club explains it, they would yell:

Gentlemen, watch your wallets and your beepers".

Soon people will be asking, what's a beeper?

Splash News Flash?

Anyone familiar with a 'Carlos', who is making the rounds at Splash, approaching well-dressed Anglo men?? Average height, thin, fair complexion for latin - sharp features and well dressed (suit) black hair sort of spikey ... small eyes.

LOL... He's well known at Splash. I've had several encounters with him... Why do you ask?

RE: Carlos News Flash?

Carlos? There was a tour guide by that name in Buenos Aires. He called me one hour before pick-up, but never showed.

Then there was the escort Carlos at Lagoa who put his meal on our tab without telling us...

Surely glutes doesn't mean to imply that the name Carlos accompanies bad news???:)

RE: Splash News Flash?

Carlos is very well known, apparently. Friends warned a visitor that he can be very 'touchy' at the bar...

(Is he reviewed here??)

"...Friends warned a visitor that he can be very 'touchy' at the bar... (Is he reviewed here??)"

Glutes, no one needs to be "warned" about Carlos. He's a friendly (harmless) patron at Splash who enjoys the company of "successful" looking gentlemen. He's neither an escort nor a hustler.

I hope your friend enjoyed his "touchy" time with him. :-) The next time you're in NYC, I'll introduce you to him.
