I'm surprised they are getting away with it and that some john with lots of dough and a smart lawyer hasn't challanged it. It sounds too much like theft to me.

 

And as it is devised as a penalty, where is the fairness. If you're driving an '83 Accord, you're losing $500 bucks. If you're driving a new Bently, you're out $200 grand. Slightly different fine for the same crime!

 

It would also be interesting to find out whose driveway the expensive cars eventually turn up in - like a relative of the judge???

I can see the case now: "I'm guilty as charged and they took my car ... waaaaahhhhh!!!!" ;-)

It's actually far more harsh on the lower-end owner in most cases since they could just barely afford the car they already had. The inequity has been discussed in the press. The Bently owner may feel a bigger sting, but the sting is less likely to be lethal.

 

Any time someone squeaks about it, law enforcement replies "if you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime".

And the car is less likely to be paid for. I would tell the finance company to go collect from the LAPD and to fuck themselves while they are at it.

Sounds more like extortion than a fine.

 

By seriously - hasn't this been argued in court by one of the LA legal eagles. To me, it sounds nothing like a fair an equitable situation. Does it also apply to guys cruising for females as well or is it just the man/man situations they are after?

 

If I lived in LA I would buy me a fleet of "disposable" clunkers and let the police have to pay someone to take them off their hands.

Nobody ever said it was only man/man situations. In fact, m/f sting operations are far more common so that is where this technique is deployed most often.

The other alternative, of course, is to avoid street trade entirely -- which is the intent of the law. Easy to do since there's little street trade to begin with.

Pretty sure you'll find a clause in your finance agreement about the car being used in commission of a crime... Insurance will have the same kind of clause of course.

 

So you'd have a car payment but no car and probably a couple hundred dollar ticket for solicitation.

 

It is a VERY dangerous game, especially around Hollywood where there's always so many police. Luckily the quality of the selection is so very low that it's getting hard to understand why a john would even participate.

 

If you see an especially HOT GUY on the streets of Hollywood and you think he's working, IT'S A STING If you see a guy so hyped up on meth he doesn't care he's been walking the streets for days with no shoes, he's "safe".

 

Mostly what I've seen of late (the very rare times I see anybody out) have been latins, but not especially good looking ones. That could just be a way for the LAPD to get an edge in the game though... have a latino officer pretend he doesn't understand exactly what you want so you spell it out for him on tape...

 

I'd say stick to Craigslist.org rentboy and maybe the Numbers bar if you gotta see the merchandise first. But also remember there's nothing preventing the police from pursuing those venues at some point... you're interested in the guy's TIME ONLY!

A couple of nights ago I actually saw a local report about prostitution on CL. Vice in Santa Ana were making hotel 'dates' from CL ads. They were busted women on this report, but it kind of sent a chill up my spine. I always wondered why vice wasn't using the men4men section of CL in los angeles. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel for them. Save them so much time and man power I would think. Does anybody know of anyone getting busted from CL? Seems only a matter of time.

Hopefully they're too busy busting all the dipshits looking to buy and sell 'tina' and prescription drugs at the moment to go after the masseurs and escorts... but it is very wise to be careful.

 

By the way, I posted some quick observations on a pass of Hollywood I made tonight to the google group...

Yep, I am, but I do my best to be careful. If I can't be sure the guy's not a cop (like I was with this one guy because of the Meth tooth) I am very specific about paying only for his time and am not shy about dropping a guy back off if he just doesn't seem to 'get it' and continues to be overly specific. There are also some guys I just won't even pick up, like one hot looking guy with a skateboard I saw 'working' the corner of Orange. Just screamed setup to me, prop and all.

 

I have no reason to believe these measures are 100% effective and I don't advocate my behavior for others AT ALL. I just post about it, maybe they can cruise vicariously through me or at least see that it's really not worth it. Truth be told, there are times I wish I could stop.

Then I hope you keep an old clunker for such excursions. I would hate to loose a good car over a 6" cock.
