So, as I drove all over most of LA tonight I did manage to make a pass or two of Santa Monica Boulevard for a look-see (absolutely no intent on hiring, just like to see what's going on when I'm in the area anyway).

It was much like the last couple of times. Completely dead. I know it's been virtually dead for 6 months, and was nothing at all compared to what it once was even then, but still... Nothing at all west of Highland, even at Orange. I think the new Target/Best Buy complex was the final nail in the coffin. Nothing east of Highland either, except maybe one guy on a bus bench that may have made eye contact. A LA Hooville member swears he saw something even further East, I sure haven't.

I wonder now since the internet has gain such popularity and is so easy to use I wonder if many of the boys and even some girls are finding it easier to go online? I couldn't imagine how I would escort without the internet. I'm a pussy in cold weather and know I couldn't stand outside in the rain or snow...LOL. Just a thought.

Hugs,

Greg

The internet has certainly taken all the quality boys off the street (and probably kept others from sinking that low, especially in this economy/job market--half the CL posts for paid encounters are trying to pay their rent between jobs). What had been left on SMB are the addicted or terribly down on their luck, with no definite place to sleep that night, let alone a computer.

The smarter ones have at least a cell phone (though seem to have trouble holding on to it on the street), and if they're really bright they'd find a public terminal occasionally and post to CL or something. But several are fresh out of prison, and don't even have an ID (why would prisoners not automatically get a state ID on release, how could they live *within the law* the month or three it takes to get one even if they wanted to?) let alone credit card, so even getting a room is pretty hard for them to do legally.

I expected the boys from SMB (such as they were) to end up at Spotlight, but it's been rather quiet the last couple times I've been there as well, even when it was raining. Has the new mayor/police chief driven the working guys from our fair city? Does the climate have an effect (it seemed to be picking up for a bit as it got warmer, but then everybody vanished)? Where did they go?

James-the reason for the lack of ANY foot traffic on SMB between Highland and LaBrea is the new Target/BestBuys center-the police have been wicked busy keeping the street scene clean-ANYONE walking along that route is going to be asked"where are you headed"by the newly installed community bike patrol.

Spotlight was OK yesterday-best talent has been hanging out in front-old and lengthy 86 list, and lots of ollllllddddd barkeeps(lonestar is the main culprit)who hold a grudge.

New barback-named RED }( whom I remember from hunters.

I've been checking out SMB the last couple of evenings, somewhat slim pickings for the most part, but there were 3 young hotties of note, a couple of hot young macho Latino boyz in those industrial blocks bet Gower & Bronson were very attentive, and I came upon a total studlet cutie pup named Kyle just east of Arena, whom I promptly snatched up. Said he was 21 but looked 18ish to me. He didn't seem at all druggie, was quite the schmoozer and my intuition gave me the green light, so I went for it! $120 to the boy for a intense little 2 hr oral+fetish session, got his # and I'll be repeat customer if he's willing! SMB is far from its heyday, but patience (& heeding one's intuition) pays off. I avoid that whole La Brea Target stretch, but there've been a couple of interesting boys giving me the ol' look see in front of Carls Jr on the other side.

I've kept meaning to stop by Spotlight these past 3 months, one of my favorite old haunts, but I've never made it that far down my Horny List before a hot alternative always presents himself. One of these days soon now.

Careful hunting guys... ;-)

Speaking of the dead-or near dead-The Spotlight has been so slow for the last couple of months that it has presented a dilema for me.Should I continue wasting my time and money visiting this place(It is a 20-30 min drive for me)or abandon it altogether?

1/2 of the staff working there is elderly or cranky or unfriendly, there are more cute boys hanging outside(86'ed)than inside, and the reg's have been loading up the jukebox with the most god awful music.

Let's see bad staff, bad music(think of Box Car Willie followed by RunDMC)few available boys,a regular clientele out of TREE'S LOUNGE and little parking.I would mention the filthy bathroom-but that seems a given in dives like this.

BUT,if I abondon it wont I be contributing to its demise-and the only alternate will be Numbers.

I know what you mean. To me it's just not a destination. It's a place I may stop in and check out (*if* there's parking), have a drink or two if I like the bartender, but never the reason for the trip and going there expecting to find somebody to have fun with is pretty pointless. Even if there is one, they'll be surrounded by letches that're too drunk to do anything, busily buying them drinks and pawing them--stopped in yesterday, late afternoon, *one* guy in the place, drunk off his ass (or worse) and already spoken for. There were several guys outside obviously looking for 'dates' but none did anything for me.

I think the answer to the death of SMB and dearth of Spotlight is more and more becoming Craig's List. I've used it for months, but lately it's been getting even better, now there are constantly guys just looking for a little help between jobs or to cover college expenses, $80-$150 is perfectly reasonable to them (unlike Numbers guys...), and they're often 18-26.

For anybody that hasn't checked it out yet:

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/

Check Erotic Services for M4M posts and Men Seeking Men and sometimes Casual Encounters for posts with $ in the title, there is also a fair selection of free fun in the last two as well.

I love craigslist myself, and have had some great sessions (and a few stinkers...) but sometimes it's all about that hustler bar or streetside encounter, that mutual "I know what you want..." look in each others' eyes that makes the computerized escort meet market seem rather dry and antiseptic. m$4m on eBay, anybody?

Yea, I do miss the old days (10ish years ago...), with 4-5 good hustler bars to choose from, I could run the "circuit" 2 or 3 times a night and wind up a winner more often than not ;-)

I've been sticking almost completely with my regulars during this dry spell (these last few years), but one of my longtime buds has moved to Texas and I'm starting to explore the local spots again.

I heard rumors a while back about the Gold 9 (13625 Moorpark in Sherman Oaks), has anybody been there lately?

Any luck with "mixed" clientele bars?

Failing that, how're you guys doing with meetings "in the wild" (like, say Hollywood blvd)? I've had some of my best luck with eye contact and that knowing nod.

I [a href=http://babydb.male4malescorts.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=25&topic_id=157&mode=full]already did[/a]. I lucked out and he was totally jazzed and eager for the whole scene. We're on for a followup tomorrow night, and I can't wait :p the second time's almost always better than the first. (hope he shows...)

I will second the motion n SMB. I was in that part of town this past Friday and didn't see more than 2 or 3 guys working. They weren't even the type of guys I'm attracted to.

I go back many years and can remember a time when boys literially lined the street between Highland and LaBrea.

Maybe the Internet has taken some of these guys off the street but my guess is not the majority. So what happened to this majority? Are they headed to other parts of town or other cities?

I would very much love to know this as well... Too bad that there's nobody to collect these kinds of demographics that could give us a definitive answer. But putting our anecdotes together paints a picture... My impression is it's that the combination of the Internet (a la craigslist & here @ m4m), the unfortunate loss of the boys who risked too much playing the barebacking gamble, and the better personal networking available to your average young hustler wannabe these days to hook up without having to venture out into the subculture. I've met several non-pro guys over the past few years through personal introductions just "putting out the feelers"... I've just let my personal network get too stale by losing touch with most of the guys who used to hook me up with friends of friends.
