I thought I would provide an update on the hustler scene in Montreal as there have been some (negative) developments that our dear readers should be aware of, especially if they find themselves in our fair city. The police have been working overtime this spring in the area behind the Bourbon complex (park and surrounding sidewalks), arresting the hustlers and generally making their presence known.

Some of the boys are taken down to the station (in handcuffs, which I have personally witnessed), and some just have their IDs checked and are told to move on. The ones with outstanding tickets or warrants are inevitably thrown in the clink ( I know of several who get a few weeks jail time for unpaid tickets, while others are still there for more serious offences).

All of this is to say the obvious, these boys are NOT angels! That being said, I have no problem inviting some of them back to my place, if they pass my personal screening criteria (drugs, stoned, personal appearance, etc). As an example, I met one kid who appeared very presentable, but on engaging him in a little conversation, I discovered his penchant was for breaking things, especially glass! I gave him a pass! LOL

The most recent disturbing development for the clients out there is that the police have started to use decoys to entrap the johns. One john has been seen being arrested. This is where the rubber hits the road! Since hearing this, I have exercised even more discretion and am now only talking to and or engaging those boys I know or who know a boy I know. This is a bit of a pain as there are constantly new boys coming on the scene.

One thing readers should be also aware of is that I refer to these hustlers as "boys" even if they are pushing 30. I'm not into youngsters (although some of the johns are) and since last summer the very young twinks are in less evidence as the police cracked down on the underaged hustlers at that time (in the process arresting two priests from New Jersey in a high profile case).

In conclusion, you have to exercise extreme caution to avoid unpleasant consequences but it is still possible to have some fun. If you are a new arrival, I would suggest talking to some of the older gentlemen you see in the park, most of whom will give you an update on the situation (some speak mostly French but others are bilingual).

Well, Montreal is just getting more and more repressive. What a shame to kill the last great place in NA to go and have fun. Makes me want to just cancel my July 3 visit!

First the bookstore on Ste. Catherines, then Taboo, now the hustle boy scene at Bourbon. What next? Sounds like no reason to go there anymore, as they are killing all the fun scenes and the escort scene is rather blase in Montreal.

As far as the street boys, I agree you have to be extra careful, but for the most part I haven't had any problems in the past. But the last time I was there - 3 years ago - it did seem as if the boys were younger and more dangerous (crack heads mostly), so I can understand why the cops started cracking down. I can remember sitting in the dance bar next to Bourbon (the door to the street was open) at like 1 am. It was just me and the bartender at that hour, and this boy, and I do mean boy (couldn't have been more than 13 or 14) came in and started hustling me. Christ, give me a break, I'm not into children. The bartender kicked him out, but when I left to go back to my hotel, he was still on the street accosting people (I guess he really needed a fix).

The purpose of my post was to give a "heads up" but I did not mean to infer that there was NO action but rather just to exercise MORE caution. In fact there are so many boys around the Bourbon complex at most times you can have your pick (again choosing wisely and discreetly). It is true the old peep show west of Amherst St. is dead BUT another one further west at 222 St Catherine is HOT, especially late afternoons during the week (don't know about weekends). It's about a 10 minute walk from the Gay Village. And the strip bars like Campus and Stock are still HOT, so, if I were you, I wouldn't cancel that trip. You may find that there is still plenty to enjoy.:9

PS The weather has turned very summerish, with temperatures hitting the high 80's since last week. Bring light clothes and sun glasses and ENJOY!
