Happy New Year gentlemen

Im planning to spend some time in San Diego in the next 2 months. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on hotel accommodations. I need something that is discreet for the client and myself. I'd also like to be in walking distance or a cab ride from restaurants as well as other activities. Also easy for clients to get to.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You’re going to find San Diego a pain in the ass for the vehicular challenged. Flagging down a taxi is virtually unknown so be prepared to call and wait. Don’t believe anyone who says you can get around by using mass transit. It’s pathetic and useless for anything other than a well planned commute to work.

Location will be key if you don’t want to rent a car and that means Hillcrest. Downtown is fun if you’re straight (the W Hotel is great) but most of your clients won’t appreciate the schlep.

Hillcrest Inn is probably your best bet. It’s not a great hotel, and parking is a bitch, but it’s the most centrally located to good restaurants and gay clubs.

Park Manor Suites is pricier and not as central, but I think it’s a cool place and the park area is a much nicer place to be when you aren’t looking for a club. Easy cab ride and medium hike to Hillcrest.

Balboa Park Inn is supposed to be fun, but I‘ve never stayed there. It‘s a “guest house” with 20 plus rooms. It’s very gay, but I’m not sure how well you can come and go discreetly. As the name indicates, also in the park area.

You can find all these places on the net. Send me a note if you want more info.

Park Manor Suites is probably the best hotel in the Hillcrest (gay) area but it isn't all that great (kinda tired) and overpriced for what you get. I'd suggest staying in Mission Valley (Marriott/Hilton/Sheraton/Renaissance) and renting a car. The same rule applies in SD as in LA: "living without a car is like having your legs cut off."

Totally agree on Park Manor Suites. Very old, parking is a bitch, and I didn't feel it was worth the high prices they were charging.

Also agree that you'll be lost without a car because their mass transit is lacking. They do have a light rail system that runs through town to the border. But it's really not practical for other things. However, if you get a car you'll find that the freeways and traffic are frustrating.

A lot of the cab traffic goes to the military bases which is the bread and butter of their business. Everyone else sucks hind tit unless you stay a hotel that will make taxi arrangements for you.

I was in San Diego a few months ago and stayed at California Suites just North of the stadium. It was fine for a cheap night or two but certainly not something where I'd suggest you invite a client. Walls are paper thin and I could hear telephone conversations in the next room. It is strictly a low budget place.

I really think you're better off staying with the major brands. For convenience of your clients you might consider the Hotel Circle area. Lots of options but I think they're a little more pricey than something a little less accessible.

Hey guys let's put our heads together and come up with some alternative, Southern California, suggestions for this outstanding escort. What about Palm Springs? Lot's of snow birds there this time of year who might be possible clients. In Palm Springs he could also, by renting a car, service San Diego and Southern Orange County. My first thought is he should probably avoid Los Angeles/West Hollywood. From what I hear from many visiting escorts L.A. clients can be flaky as hell.

Nothing wrong with San Diego. And many of the visiting escorts have had great times with clients in Los Angeles.WeHo would not be my first choice-but if I was young and cute(and liked cute boys)then WeHo would definetly be worth staying in.

Dane I will be keeping my eyes open for you and will be happy to send you specials as I find them.

So don't giv up just yet-lots of time.

Having said that you might want to keep your options open by flying into LAX or SNA(Orange County)instead of San Diego.Lots of cheap flights from Ny to both of these.

I will be privating you with more info.

And yes-as Steven suggested the Omni is really a great place-join their "Select Guest"program before staying with them. The Omni in LA is the nicest in the downtown area.

Dane, on a further note, if you are a good escort (and from what I see, hear and read - you certainly are) the place doesn't matter. You will get business anywhere you go. From my experience and my point of view Los Angeles is worth visiting.

Did I sense right from your original posting, that you were looking for a visit without the hassle of a rental car ?

Why not stay in the La Jolla area?

It's just north of San Diego proper, but has beaches and good restaurants together with a range of hotels all in walking distance of the centre of the village.

La Jolla is connected easily by freeways and surface streets to the rest of greater San Diego, but I hired a car with satellite-navigation and it was easy to get around.

While I love in La Jolla and highly recommend it for its sights and comforts, I don't think it'd be a good choice for attracting clients from the primary gay areas. Its a little out of the way and the locals view it as a pain in the *ss to drive here.

Hillcrest Inn is sort of fun - it has a lot of gay clients, within walking distance of many gay clubs, but no parking except on the street if available. Parking in Hillcrest is not too convenient.

I agree it's probably best to have a car - and stay in a hotel in hotel circle. Driving around San Diego isn't hard at all - I just have trouble finding a parking space at gaslamp area restaurants or in Hillcrest.

How much you budget for a room makes a big difference as to what is avaialbe and where.

LaJolla is not convenient to Hillcrest or downtown.

Del Mar is 17 miles out in the suburbs with next to nothing to do or see without driving miles.

Hillcrest is your best bet.

I have always found a Marriott of some sort where ever I want to stay. There are Residence Inns, or a newer hotellike Courtyard right smack in the center of Downtown on Broadway and 5th. Walk to everything including the multiple use Horton plaza across the street and many restaurants.

If you don't want to rent a car, then use the Express Shuttle from the airpot. The airport is right near downtown like the train depot to LA, trolley to TJ, the world class Zoo is downtown. But the better Wild Animal park is worth renting a car for a drive up to Escondido about 25 miles north. Palm Spings and LA is a 3 hour drive on a good day.
