RE: Escorts who don't advertise their rates: red flag o...

Are these ads that indicate rate "varies", of which I have seen quite a few, eg. on Rentboy, or where there is no reference at all? Where it states rates vary, I take that as meaning there will be extra charges above the usual rates for unusual requests. Does that make sense? Anyway that's been my experience, since I sometimes have "unusual" requests!:p

Others may disagree, but I don't consider it a red flag, nor an implied offer to start low on negotiations. (Personally, though, I don't like to bargain -- if an escort's fee is more than I feel comfortable agreeing to, then I find another escort.) I've met one escort well-reviewed on this site without even settling on his fee beforehand, not a practice I'd recommend but it just happened that way. Since reviewers had indicated his fee on this site and in the absence of any mention of it on his website, I figured I'd let that be my guideline and offered him that amount when we'd finished, which he was fine with. (I threw in a tip, of course.)

If you have nothing to go on, I'd think you'd want to be sure you knew what he wanted before you set an appointment. For myself, I'd be concerned only if he started throwing around a sliding scale type of arrangement, unless it was for different periods of time. I give a pass to escorts who seem to want money just for showing up and go up from there depending upon what transpires.

Yes, that's the sort of thing I was thinking of. In the past, I ignored those Ads because it seemed like a kind of market segmenting target. I called one recently and the quoted rate was lower than what I take to be the going rate, and what I believe was his past quoted rate. So I wondered to myself is this a supply (aging escort) or demand (bad economy) issue. I guess, I ll have to take the plunge to find out.

Advertised Rates

Once again, communication about any and all points of possible concern will make the experience both go more smoothly and enjoyably for all parties concerned.

Finally, just as an aside, to offer a perspective from my experience, some escorts have intiated the inquire about rates to not post hourly rates for their own protection and discuss that with the client after the initial contact may be made. As has been pointed out elsewhere, there are some escorts who believe it is appropriate to having a "menu" of prices based on activity, but it appears they are a small few. As has also been pointed out, there is the possibility escorts will negotiate but there is an equivilent possibility that they will not.

You can tell how bored I am today. This is what happens when you get canceled on. I'm not used to it :)

Meanwhile, I can't speak for all other escorts but my situation is this, my rates are relatively high for two reasons. I put myself in a different category than other escorts. I don't usually do the whole meet and fuck situation. It's not my style. My rates are based on an evening and more than just an hour of time so an hourly rate would not apply to me.

I have by service rates which allow me to spend time with people not worrying how long we're together until we get to the bedroom. It's more fun for everyone that way.

With higher rates, I also get to maintain a higher quality of clientele who aren't the cheap guy expecting a quick lay. It's like fine wine vs. ralphs brand. I explained that wrong. Grrrr ;)

Anyway, I ask people not to post my rates because until I explain my system, my rates would more often then not scare people off. I think they should get to know ME, not my numbers.

This thread reminded me that years ago (the 1970s and 80s) print ads in places like the Advocate often didn't contain rates, so that was always the first question that I asked, since I saw no sense in wasting my time or the escort's on discussions of other things if I couldn't afford him. Even though I now hire mostly from reviews here, which always contain prices, I still automatically ask when I first contact an escort or agency, since fees can change.
