More moderators, please...

The board has lost a lot of its snap and vigor. I think the moderators are doing a good job trying to keep things moving. But posts are going up at best once an hour and that's not really often enough, at least in the evenings.

 

It used to be possible for a conversation to actually unfold during an evening. That isn't so anymore, because it's slow for any responses to show up.

 

If moderation is truly required (a question in my mind, at least), many more moderators are required, preferably from many different time zones.

 

I tried to think of guys to suggest and decided to come up with names of guys who have (a) been around M4M for a long time, preferably since the beginning; (b) have show reasonable restraint or judgment; and © aren't escorts, to allow the escorts to be able to tell everyone they are independent of the review site.

 

I don't know if any of these criteria make sense, but they're what I came up with. And, using these, the following ten guys came to mind (ok, not exactly immediately -- I had to cheat a little and go back and look at the archives):

 

Bilbo, Barry, Tampa Yankee, Will, Paul Revere,

Miami Looker, NY Observer, CT Dick, Traveller, Shooter

 

And whatever DID happen to Regina and to Quinte??

Quinte retired. Regina had some personal issues.

 

As far as the moderators go, I am working on a solution that will permit posts to go up automatically for poeple who have a track record. The moderators will then screen only newbies.

 

Please bear with me. It's only been a couple of weeks. Frankly, I am very pleased with the way the board has come around and I personally do not mind the lag time. However, this board is not here to please me.

 

I am here to serve the wishes of the masses and I am working on a fix. I hope everyone understands that I cannot let this become the free-for-all it once was because that trust was breached and I'm sure that you do not want your name, address, phone number and lover's name posted even for a few minutes or worse, an few hours on this board.

 

Unfortunately, we have discovered there are some loose cannons among us. This is not a free society. So it will never be what it was, but it can be what we will it to be.

 

I thank you for your patience and I apologize for the inconvenience.

You know what? Moderating is a BITCH of an assignment!

 

We see posts that are in response to posts that we may or may not have seen. We have no idea, when we let them loose, whether the poster has ever posted before, what the conversation is about, or whether to do it at all. There was one thread recently that was let through that allowed the real name of a recently deceased escort through the system. My condolences to his family! (And no, that wasn't expressed anywhere on the thread.)

 

We know the system ain't great. I don't think any of my fellow moderators would argue.

 

But it's really great knowing you want MORE of us! ;-)

The moderators are doing a very good job under the circumstances. Thanks guys! A certain former escort has threatened to use a variety of screen names to post copies of additional threads from the private section of the board, so some form of moderation is probably always going to be necessary. (Things that are said in private -- no matter how innocent or damning -- should stay that way.) A couple of days ago, someone asked if the posts of long time posters could be posted without being screened. I don't know if the software will allow that, but that might be one solution to to the ongoing complaints about the board not being as lively as it used to be. (In the meantime, a couple of additional moderators can't hurt. We're going into the summer vacation season and I'm sure that at least some of the moderators can use a break.)

I don't know what happened to Regina, but there was a thread about escorts in Houston a couple of days ago that mentioned that Quinte had retired. The e-mail and/or news sections of the site sometimes mentions that an escort has retired. A couple of escorts have announced their retirements on the board. Unless I missed it, that was no announcement about Quinte and he didn't say anything about retiring during his recent chat. The last post that I remember seeing from him, was a post -- in the travel section -- that mentioned that he was leaving New York earlier than planned. I hope that he's o.k.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one missing Regina and Quinte.

 

I have warned HooBoy that if he is crazy enough to make me a moderator that A. I wouldn't want to read the streetboy section. and B. I would probably be a little tyrant in the masseur section, erasing more posts there than almost anyone else would, so he should probably keep me away from that, too. So, I would be of limited use as a moderator.

Thanks for the nomination and confidence in me. But I also would refuse the opportunity to moderate this board. Moderatng is work, and I come here for recreation and entertainment. My job provides me with plenty of work.

 

I do appreciate your thoughtful posts, and the fact that you generally raise the level of discourse on the board. We should get together for coffee sometime. I am really curious to see if I may already know you from some other venue or connection. Hmmm, who is that Boston Guy?

I've seen Quinte a couple of times fairly recently. He is fine, I believe he was just ready to move on to other pursuits. He is taking some time to travel abroad and will probably end up on the West Coast to tackle new challenges. I think he got a little stressed out trying to keep up as an escort and decided that there were other things he could do equally well. If there is more to the story, he hasn't shared it with me. I've wished him the best of luck--he is a great guy.

i want to thank hooboy and the moderators for keeping this message center up and running efficiently at a time when it might have been expected to close down for security reasons.

 

period. no complaints about time for postings to go up, which is normally very fast.

 

if the board has lost its "snap and vinegar," it must be due to other reasons. frankly, i find a little too much snap and vinegar for my taste, sometimes but i'm only one person. i'd rather see a little more milk and honey.

I kind'of agree. It seems that a review of mine has been lost in the world of black socks as well. Two went in but only one came out. Seriously I noticed that the posting has changed and the review I received from a client almost 2 1/2 weeks ago has yet to post.

I think the posting of reviews is entirely separate from the posting of comments here on the board. The moderators don't have anything to do with that.

trekker is right. Moderators don't touch the review process, just messages on this board. HooBoy and only HooBoy handles the reviews.

 

One reason for the delay in your review might be that you're just popular. ;-) You do realize, don't you, that after <n> reviews, the interval between posting increases?

 

(HooBoy has explained his posting schedule many times and I still can't remember it.)

What a Freudian slip. As good as beasts for breasts, and yes, vinegar and vigor sure seem to equate around here lately. Some posters put more energy into being sour than anything else. Jizz, some of your link posts may be irrelevant, but sometimes they are the only thread that offer a respite from all the mean and contentious threads (unless someone stops in to yell at YOU for posting another irrelevant link.) I don't usually follow your suggested links (I just assumed they were escort pages), but I respect your right to post them and I think your comments are fun.

 

If I weren't an escort I'd volunteer, but I applaud Hooboy and all moderators efforts. A couple more moderators might be nice though. I do miss the speedy exchange of thoughts and ideas.

Me sit still? Never! I just don't follow many of the links because, a) I eat my heart out when I see the new young studs my clients from ten yers ago are now hiring, and b) I've built/worked on so many porn sites, I've got beautiful boys coming out my butt! :-)
