I asked my niece when she was coming to visit with her new husband.

Niece:  ”All my girlfriends are going for a bachelorette party on Labor Day but I can’t make it!”

Me: “Do they know they’ve chosen a weekend when 300,000 gay men will be in town!”

Niece: “they just figured it out…”

So, the OF content makers have been in town scouting things…yeah, you can look at them and tell…

But this week I’ve not even needed my sound machine to suppress late night noise…That changes Thursday when my hovel fills with guys - including 2-3 contributors here

Who else is coming??

I cannot speak to the question, but I have to wonder whether the invitation list was firm, or subject to revision should there be unexpected visitors to the city.

It was fluid as of Wednesday with additions 😉

Capacity increases next year when the renovation is complete.  In the meantime, I sit here awaiting the structural engineer’s drawings

I had been mildly curious when I saw your original post, but without considering it further. @Pensant's question piqued my interest further, so I responded, but my comment simply reflected uninformed speculation on my part.

Absolutely!  What you need to understand…until my renovation is complete…this very thin 200 year-old door (note the “latch” rather than a “knob”), blackout storm shutters, and 8’ of air is the only thing that separates my pillow from the sidewalk. So it's not just street noise, but also footsteps conversations etc. that I'm trying to muffle and suppress.

This is what you deal with having a 200+ year old house in the French Quarter…and I love it!

This will be my first gay festival event ever.  The fact that I live in the middle and will be hosting 6 Fruits with 12 Nuts is icing on the cake 😉

Wonderful door.  The glass looks like its been replaced at some point.  Didn't realize you step out directly onto the street.  Would still keep the door and tolerate the noise.

Some of the glass has been changed and some is old.  But yeah…since the house has the highest historic protection rating, the door stays 🤣

This is my front door, similar to yours in that it is close to the street but 100 years ago the owner built a front porch which is on town land. Otherwise you would step right onto the sidewalk. The porch is grandfathered so I renovated it to last another 100 years. 
The house itself is 170 years old and built of stone so little noise penetrates from the street. I don’t think I would want to have your situation with the noise.

Mine is brick…but that was my bedroom door adjacent to the front door 😉

Highly restrictive zoning precludes most any exterior modernization efforts.   But I kinda like the really old doors as they are (as opposed to paying extortive costs to replicate them)

I feel the same way about all my old doors and windows. The only modern doors I have installed are at the back of the house and the basement windows.
