Beautiful Ann Blyth, the last of the MGM Golden Age sopranos, died yesterday, just shy of age 98.

Most widely known for her performance as Veda, the bratty daughter of Joan Crawford's Mildred Pierce (1945), and later on screen as the leading ingenue in Kismet, The Student Prince, and Rose Marie, she then made her way in dramatic and comedic roles, mostly on TV which was providing more work as the big Hollywood musicals shifted away from using the legit scores that showed her voice so beautifully. She turned down a number of offers as she raised 5 sons with her husband, and continued to appear in summer stock musicals and in TV guest star roles into her 70's.

As Mrs. Brolin once sang, Memories... light the corners of my mind...
