Luv2play Posted November 8 Posted November 8 I read the obit today of the death of Marlene Dietrich’s only child, who became a well known actress herself. She wrote a revealing book about her mother years ago which was decidedly different from Joan Crawford’s daughter’s Christina. Ms. Riva was brought up in Hollywood and was raised by a mother who was enmeshed in affairs with members of both sexes at the highest level of Tinseltown’s elite. She wasn’t sent to school until a teenager when she attended a Swiss finishing school. She befriended Judy Garland at a young age and shared some of her problems like drugs. But she straightened herself out and became a durable actor for decades. It’s the sexual liberties her mother took years before society would accept, nor even acknowledge, that still amazes me. I have visited Dietrich’s grave in Berlin and her stone reads simply Marlene. It is habitually covered in flowers and tokens of affection like teddy bears. She lived the life many of her admirers could relate to in some way. samhexum, thomas and Nue2thegame 1 1 1
samhexum Posted November 9 Posted November 9 (edited) You should be more specific with your headlines. You had me thinking that it was never mentioned that Steve Landesberg's character on Barney Miller had a daughter. Edited November 9 by samhexum for reasons that are better left unsaid
Rod Hagen Posted November 9 Posted November 9 (edited) Apparently she was in Scrooged, a movie I enjoyed quite a bit at the time. I don't remember if she had a speaking part. 100 years, good for her. Here Mom was a Marvel Edited November 9 by Rod Hagen marylander1940 1
