Eaton’s Bldg … Are you aware that a bar/restaurant was re-opened on the 9th floor last year? It looks posh and I felt too casually dressed to go in for lunch when running errands and swinging by to gawk this week, although many were in jeans etc, and the hostess offered to seat me. Soon. Le 9e, aka Restaurant L’Île de France. Perhaps you had a dressy family outing up there in days gone by, well before it had previously closed in 1999.

I remember having lunch there with my sister’s godmother who took the four of us siblings. That would be in the 1950’s and it was an art deco interior altho at that age I wasn’t aware of the meaning of the style.

The only thing I remember about the food was the dessert which was an ice cream cone served on a dish upside down with a clown face on the ball of ice cream.

I hope the use of the word ‘fluidity’ doesn’t imply that Campus is being transformed into another Stock. 😕

It says that they are just jointly launching a brand new website but everything else stays the same. We will see.

It seems odd that they would work together to create a joint website when they are competitors. I think there must be some deeper connections between the two. Did Stock owner Danny buy Campus?

I don’t think so, not entirely anyway. I believe Guillaume, owner of 3+ years now, will maintain some if not all Campus proprietorship. It's difficult to know the terms of these deals, mergers, acquisitions, collabs, etc. I suppose we can keep an eye on Danny's website in which his growing portfolio of Village venues is listed.

I would not be surprised if Canadian Sexy Males becomes more a part of the scene. These collabs allow more flexible transition for the performers across various entities with less problematic loyalty dynamics.

Both clubs are basically on life support weeknights, so I wonder if the collab will mean one or the other being exclusively open those nights. It doesn’t make sense to have a barkeep, busboy, DJ, etc in each of two establishments simultaneously and mere steps apart, catering to a few customers each. Customers will also eat an admission fee more readily if a venue has a bit of life to it.

By the way, former Campus owner Gary died in May.

That makes me very sad.  He was always friendly and gracious to me, starting from my very first trips to Montreal when I had zero experience with strip clubs and their etiquette.  If you have a link to an obituary, I'd appreciate your posting it.

From the community ‘zine … it would not embed with translation so use the function tab to the left of “fugues dot com” at the bottom.

Interesting reading. A shame it keeps blanking out after 30 seconds of so.
But that account is what I remember about Gary. Although he didn’t know me he always recognized me when he saw me in the club. I was a regular when he took over in 2002 and remained so for the next 8 years until I moved away.
