Spiritualadvisor Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Does the wealth effect stemming from the US stock market performance influence your hiring process? Do you hire less when your portfolio is down and more when it is up? Thank you.

Do you hire less when your portfolio is down and more when it is up? Thank you. As a millennial in the wealth accumulation phase of life, my net worth (which is mostly in the stock market) does not influence my hiring decisions. Rather, it is my take home pay (after a set dollar amount for investing) that affects my hiring decisions. With costs of food and services much higher than they were pre-2022, there is less left over each month for discretionary spending on this hobby. I actually get excited when the stock market goes on sale and I'm able to purchase more shares with my set bi-weekly contributions. But, it doesn't mean I contribute less to investments because I can buy more. Therefore, the price of stocks do not affect my hiring. + DrownedBoy Posted April 4 Posted April 4 No, but stagnating wages, inflation, and the possibility of losing my job would. Spiritualadvisor 1
+ nycman Posted April 4 Posted April 4 No. I never, ever look at my portfolio. I’ll look at it when I retire, that’s the first day I’ll care. Until then, it’s irrelevant. It is what it is. I had a friend that checked hers every single day. It made her miserable and insane. Stocks up? Caviar and champagne by the gallon. Stocks down? Minuscule portions of reheated hot dogs and canned baked beans. I didn’t have to check the stock market, all I had to say was “what’s for dinner?” + DrownedBoy, Spiritualadvisor, Kcdave and 3 others 1 1 4
