Ali Gator Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 'Annie Get Your Gun' is another old chestnut beloved on Broadway. The last revival was a major hit starring Bernadette Peters which won her a Tony. The show opened in March, 1999 (33 years after the last B'way revival in 1966) and closed in early September, 2001 (just 10 days before the 9 - 11 tragedy), with a total of over 1,000 performances. The production won a Tony for 'Best Revival'. Soap actress Susan Lucci replaced Peters for two weeks at the end of 1999, when Peters went on vacation. Peters stuck with the show through September, 2000 when 'Charlie's Angels' star Cheryl Ladd made her B'way debut (I saw Ladd and she was incredible). Reba McEntire took over the end of January, 2001 and then TV actress Crystal Bernard (who did the first US tour) took over the B'way role from June, 2001 until it closed September 1, 2001. It's time...time for a revival. Yet, what big name actress could do the role justice and bring in a big box office to make it a hit ? Suggestions ? I'm thinking Pamela Anderson (she got great reviews for 'Chicago') or maybe even Queen Latifah ?

ShortCutie7 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I saw the last production with Crystal Bernard… I remember liking the show but her performance being forgettable (then again, I was a child). As for potential stars, I think Kelly Clarkson would be phenomenal in the role! I also think it would be cool if Reba did it again (a la the infamous “Granny, Get Your Gun”).
jeezifonly Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 It’s a problematic show today, because of the Native appropriation throughout. The right star? Kelly Clarkson.
+ ApexNomad Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 @ShortCutie7 @jeezifonly Kelly Clarkson would indeed be a great choice! Incidentally, her talk show is now taped in NY, so it’s theoretically possible. ShortCutie7 and jeezifonly 2
+ sam.fitzpatrick Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Kelly Clarkson would indeed be interesting. I'd also love to see Jennifer Simard in the role. As an outside pick, Anna Kendrick could be interesting - Anna as Annie.😉 thomas and + ApexNomad 2

MaybeMaybeNot Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I saw Marilu Henner on tour. For future productions, I am always a fan of Broadway stars, so give me Sutton Foster, Patina Miller, Kara Lindsay, Laura Bell Bundy. Laura Bell Bundy would be incredible. + ApexNomad and Marc in Calif 1 1
