Post titles

The norm here used to be post titles were formatted as:

411 on (provider’s name) in (city)

that approach made it easy to select or bypass posts based on a reader’s geographic interest and worked nicely. We seem to have gotten away from that.

Here’s one man’s hope we can get back to that and/or moderators can help via editing.

Providers move around frequently however. A guy who was in NYC may move to LA, so the thread headline becomes misleading.  There has also been an effort to combine threads to provide for more continuity instead of having new, unconnected threads, started at disparate times by different users.

The old standard isn't as helpful with those considerations, and the mods probably can't adjust the headline every time a provider changes cities.

We can use our judgment there. Sometimes the city reflects a place they are visiting, sometimes it's their home base. We might merge them using the new or the old title (and hence location) and at times we might opt for a title that omits the city because the provider pops up in different places. But you're right, we can't adjust them all the time. But we have to balance the importance of having the correct city against the benefit of combining all the relatively recent discussion about the provider.

That said, a lot of the accessibility of the information here depends on members posting titles that facilitate other members' identifying threads that interest them and of searching for information, we can't fix it all. So, if I could add one thing to the OP's plea, try to spell the provider's name correctly or at least consistently.

Can't agree more.  If you are asking about a dude who clearly has a home base.. lives in your city PLEASE put that city in the subject line.  I don't have time to click on every post just to discover which dudes are in my time zone.  thanks  everyone!!!!
