Depending on how long he's been advertising, and how many believable reviews are available to see (provided they are spaced apart in time, and look like he didn't write them himself), you should be fine in regard to safety.

Word of important advice - simplicity. Do not bombard him (or and other perspective guy for that matter) with endless questions and worries. You risk missing out because you won't be taken seriously. State your name and time you'd like to meet, and let him take it from there.
