Granted, he's an outlier, but it puts into context the scrawniness of Gay's CV. Note that Gay has never published a single academic book. Previous Harvard president Drew Gilpin Faust had published 5 books before becoming president; Lawrence Bacow had published 2. If the Israeli army was truly bent on committing genocide, the death toll in Gaza would be 2 million, and not 20,000. Israel did not ask for this war. They were drawn into it on October 7th, when Hamas invaded Israel, and committed a brutal massacre, including murdering innocent teenage concert-goers. They killed children in front of parents, killing parents in front of children, dozens of sexual assaults, beheadings, etc. That was a declaration of war against Israel. Much like Pearl Harbor, when, if you recall, the US response to a far less brutal invasion, was to drop nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and kill 140,000 innocent Japanese. Was that genocide too? And Japan was over 10,000 miles from the United States. Hamas-run Gaza is 10 feet from Israeli soil. Needless to say, no other civilized (or even uncivilized) country in the world would show the restraint that the Israeli army has. The military drops leaflets in the areas warning the civilian population to move out, and they conduct pinpoint attacks against the Hamas soldiers. When Hamas soldiers hide in residential buildings, mosques, hospitals, schools, etc. they show themselves for the cowards that they are. Israel must annihilate Hamas. If not, Hamas has pledged to continue to attack and massacre Israeli civilians. And circling back to the topic of Claudine Gay. Of course everyone knows she was a DEI hire/promotion. And now the world saw the result of Harvard's token hire who checked the right boxes. A person so unqualified that she couldn't verbalize a coherent response to whether calling for genocide against Jews constitutes harassment (could she have gotten a more softball question?). Gay was humiliated. And Harvard lost billions in endowments and future donations, and it's reputation was scarred and will take decades to repair.
