I don't care for Judge Mathis but I love The People's Court. I'm sure they'll just show reruns in it's time slot but I'm very upset. Dr. Phil is going to just show repeats as well starting next season along with repeats showing already of Maury & Judge Judy. In my area they also have a time slot for old episodes of Jeopardy. Daytime TV is gonna be all reruns before you know it.

I don't know how I missed this in April but both Judge Milian & Judge Mathis got picked up for new shows:

Judge Marilyn Milian is returning to the bench in a new series only months after The People’s Court cancellation. She will star in a new first-run

Friday 7/21 is the last first run episode of TPC. After that it’s all reruns.

I DVR it everyday so I know! But looking forward to the new show. I hope she brings her bailiff Douglas along too which I'm sure she will. Judge Judy's bailiff said they never even asked him to come over to the new show when she started her new one.

According to JJ, her agreement with the streaming platform was that nothing could be the same as her syndicated show, since her original was still continuing in reruns each day. This is why she couldn’t bring Byrd along ( and he knew this), she wears a purple robe not a black one, she added a court stenographer and she added her granddaughter. No way could the audience confuse these two shows with the changes.

JJ has developed another court series for streaming TV which the two female judges from Hot Bench will be on along with Byrd. It’s supposed to be airing this fall, but not sure because of the strike.

The writer's strike doesn't affect court shows. And obviously the actor's one doesn't as well.

What a dud the last People's Court show was - the twins suing each other. A wasted hour episode.

One of the things Marilyn tries very hard to do is turn her show into Dr. Phil, and that's not what the focus of her sow is supposed to be. She turns into a family therapist as she tries to patch up relationships, rather than focus on the legal case. I'm not a fan of this.  When plaintiffs bring their personal drama to 'Judge Judy', JJ reminds them 'this is a courtroom - if you're looking for Dr. Phil, that's another program'.  TPC would be more interesting if Marilyn didn't play 'court therapist' and left that for Dr. Phil.

I'm not sure about that - JJ and other court shows employ writers. If you ever read the credits at the end, you will see her show has writers.

Here's the end credits for an old people's court episode. No writer's listed:

Maybe Judge Judy had writers. I only watch People's Court.

Judge Milian's new show premiered yesterday but it sucks. I couldn't even make it through the first two episodes. Reminded me of why I only watched TPC. As it states in the end credits it sometimes is the real litigants but they also use actors to recreate the events for entertainment purposes only. TPC was all real as stated in it's opening credits.

I just came across Will Evans - bailiff on 'Judge Mablean'. This guy pings for me. I wouldn't mind if this guy handcuffed me and brought me to his apartment ?

BTW Judge Mablean - you need a new hairstylist. The one you have now keeps putting the most janky, crooked wigs on your head. They look ridiculous.

Whatever happened to the cute Curt Chaplin, hallway interviewer on TPC for a while ?  I can't find anything on the internet about him. The guy was seriously sexy and hot !

From TPC Wikipedia page:

Curt Chaplin replaced Jack Harrell as the show's announcer and appeared on camera as the court reporter with the addition of a litigant-final-thoughts interviewer, known for snippily interviewing the program's litigants following the conclusion of each case. Beginning with the 2016-17 season, Doug Llewellyn from the first incarnation of The People's Court took over this litigant interviewing role. Chaplin, however, maintains his voice-over role in the series. In this role, Chaplin narrates the court show in a manner that pokes fun at the cases with melodramatic and exaggerated vocal expressions and verbiage.

He narrates as well now for her new show.

I've been watching this week, and I'm close to giving up.

So far, all the litigants have been booked through a talent agency. That's more than obvious. The actors (including the children who appeared this week) have memorized their lines, and have been directed pretty well for outbursts in the court - so JM can respond with her trademarked "I've been doing this my whole life without your help", lest we forget.

These litigants are now well dressed, well groomed and well spoken. No more real people who took the subway in for their case to be heard ! No more female litigants with janky , crooked wigs, in clothes too small for them with the "Juicy" logo across their boobs. No more tatted faces, boobs and necks. No more male litigants with the teardrop tatted on their cheek and no teeth in their mouth. No more litigants who mumble and butcher the English language, so the viewer can't understand their testimony. These are professionals, who look like they just stepped out of Neiman Marcus with a tailored wardrobe and professionally made up  - which makes me question how this was allowed to tape this summer since the SAG has gone on strike (I'll assume these actors / actresses don't belong to SAG). I also question who wrote the scripts for these shows for the litigants to follow ?

The one saving grace this week was the guy who sat in the galley - behind the defendants podium. Every time the camera was focused on the defendant, there was a cute guy with dark hair and a five-o-clock shadow looking over the defendants left shoulder.  Who is this guy ?  He deserves his own thread ! If he's an out of work escort or masseur in LA, I will fly him out to my area and keep him employed for a while. Yum !

There was an episode where a 'groom' was suing a singer who couldn't make the wedding reception to perform (flight delays). The singer's name is Kayola Bora - her name was shown on screen more than once. Bora said when she first met the plaintiff a few years ago, she was just starting her singing career. Now she's a professional singer and travels regularly performing live concerts and meeting her fans.

I was curious, so I Googled Kayola Bora - surely, she must have some kind of social media presence, or some professional web page so others can get in touch with her to book her services, or follow her on social media if they want to catch one of her concerts while she's touring, no ?

Google search brings up zilch. No such person.  Another fake court case.

This was followed by cute guy Drew Hastings who sued his ex-girlfriend for using his semen in her 'fertility jewelry'. He came in his condoms and threw them away - then she would dry it out under a 'dehumidifier' and make spiritual fertility jewelry with this. Her name is Poppy West. Drew said he found her jewelry business on line, when he did a Google search.

Again, I did a Google search  - Drew Hastings is the name of a comedian (no trace of the defendant) and Poppy West brings up nothing - no jewelry business to be found under her name.

These cases are so damn fake.

I'd like to think I've seen enough Judge Judy reruns to defend a landlord in small claims court.

I learned a lot from watching Judge Judy, which has helped me from time to time. Most important - an agreement is contained in the four corners of a page. Once it is signed, that's the only thing enforceable by law.

I also learned from Judge Milian, too - most importantly, "If money leaves this hand, I get a receipt in this other hand."  That has saved my ass a number of times in the past 20 years or so.
