Hi, folks - rookie here, in all respects.  I'll be happy to provide more details/context if necessary, but the core question is whether anyone is familiar with an escort-like service called "Varsity Empire"?  Internet searches for this turn up only unrelated pages with the same name.  I responded to an ad on doublelist, and got a response from someone who "started a private network for gay men who want to meet real actual straight men", and offered to connect me with an ex-MMA fighter for a fee.  I'm getting a weird vibe, and I can't tell if that's just 'cause I haven't done this before, or if there's actually something sketchy happening here.  I get that these kinds of services will naturally be a bit more discreet, but shouldn't there be some evidence of reputability in one way or another?  If figured if that exists anywhere, this is probably the place where someone would know!  

I'm in Philly, but the number I was contacted from had a phone number with a Manhattan area code.  I'd be grateful for (a) info on this specific organization, (b) general advice on how to vett unfamiliar services (what questions to ask, red flags to look for), (c) both, or (d) whatever you think I *should* be thinking about but haven't yet!  Thank you!  I'll try to remember to check back here soon... not sure if there's a way to get email alerts when someone replies?  (I just selected "follow topic", so maybe that'll help?)

There was a Mintboys ad that turned out to be for something like this. The whole thing sounded weird, and I just couldn't go through with meeting any of the guys the advertiser supposedly represented. If you feel uncomfortable with the offer then take a pass.

He was expensive but could deliver . I had a huge windfall at about 35 YO, accompanied by a major crush on porn star Joe Cade. Wired David Forrest one thousand up front, Joe arrived we had a great weekend and I think I paid him $2,000 and I paid the airfare. Outstanding weekend that goes down as the best of the best. This is definitely something I’ve been thinking about.  Although in my case, I don’t really need him to do anything to me: I’m more curious about what he’ll let me do to him. I don’t have high expectations…

For everyone else i think this is the guy who used to frequent these boards under different names to illicit conversations about "trade", "gay", "Bi" and "Straight" definitions.

His purpose was to try and position the difference between "truly straight" guys and other providers who were saying that but were not " really authentically straight".

I did end up having more than one long phone calls with him and if it is this person privately i could discuss my perspectives, (Pro's and Con's)
