My friends thought it would be a nice "going away to college" gift for me, even though they knew I was gay. We were also both quite skittish about interacting with any of the other patrons even though there was a lot of play going on, but from memory I don't think either of us found anyone there attractive anyway. I was very happy when porn on VHS came along. I could have more control over what I watched and, of course, viewing porn no longer required going to a theater.
