I think I only saw part 1 and 2. Since he was killed off I understand from the obits he only made a brief appearance in a subsequent sequel in some sort of flash back (part 3?).

The flashback is at the end of Godfather II, which shows the family celebrating a surprise birthday for Vito. The brothers are all around the table together.
