Spas in NYC

Out of all the men’s spa I’ve been to in NYC, Top Men Spa takes the cake, Times Square Men Spa a close second. Top Men Spa definitely has everything down to a t. From the impeccable hospitality provided by their manager, Lynn, the overall cleanliness of their establishment (not to mention the size of every room), and the quality of their masseuses. That being said, I’m not sure if I’ll be coming back anytime soon considering the very awkward session I just had. The guy I asked for was David. He’s super nice, very handsome, and a great masseuse (I remember this from the first time I had him) which is why I specifically asked for him by name because this was exactly what I needed— a good, relaxing massage. However, as we were approaching the last few minutes of our session, he abruptly stops and made a gesture above my mid area which confused the fuck out of me so I asked what he meant. He goes, “I massaged you before right? You didn’t tip me enough last time.” And mind you, this was for the minimum and nothing else. Their 1 hour massage is $85 and I gave him a $60 tip. Idk if there’s a certain tip etiquette that I wasn’t aware of but I thought what I gave was more than enough considering. I was truly taken aback when he said this and felt embarrassed. It left such a sour taste that I asked him he didn’t need to finish the session but he insisted. When my time was nearing its end, he went out to get a hot towel to wipe off the oil on my body which he basically half assed and asked if I wanted to finish cleaning up by myself and in my head I was like “damn” (lol). So f embarrassing so I was just like “it’s fine.” At this point, I just wanted to get the fuck out. But before he left the room, I made sure to ask how much he wanted me to tip him for our session straight up because clearly I don’t know shit and I don’t want to get it wrong the second time lol and he said I didn’t have to which I happily obliged because what the actual fuck did I just go through man? Now it all made sense how he seemed so disinterested from the get go. He was literally just putting his weight on me the first half of the session which confused me because that wasn’t how I remembered it. I thought he was just having an off day which I totally understand. Turns out, that wasn’t the case. And just to be clear, I’m not saying to avoid this place entirely. Otherwise I wouldn’t have said what I said in the beginning. In fact, I’m encouraging you to visit and experience what they have to offer! It’s one of the better men spas if not the best in NYC. Just be wary of David.

Timothy - I feel bad for your experience, especially so because you were more than generous in giving a $60 tip for your first visit.  I hope you didn't waste your $$$ by giving David any tip after that experience.  It was uncalled for.  I'm almost thinking that he had you mixed up with someone else, still no excuse.  He needs to learn about customer service.  There isn't a shortage of Men's Spas in the city, so spend your $$$ elsewhere.

Bummer experience. I hope you reported David’s reprehensible behavior to the manager.

You were MORE THAN GENEROUS by tipping him $60 on top of an $85 dollar massage. Clearly he was being greedy as fuck, but it’s more so the unprofessional vibe for me. I would’ve slapped fire out of him, reported him to the manager, turned over a display or two, stolen some massage oils, and walked out.

Stay away from that place, or at the very least, stay away from that specific masseur.

I dipped so fast after paying because you bet I didn’t. But to my defense (bec I refuse to be seen as a cheapskate lmao), he also said I didn’t have to tip him when I asked how much he wanted just for the massage. Honestly, even if he didn’t perform the extra service at the end, I would’ve given him a tip anyways but that was off the table the moment he started doing what he did.

Can you give me your spa recs and who to ask for? Thanks!!

I know. I was looking forward to it too! I was thinking of calling as soon as I got home but never got around to it.

I’ve read about certain masseuses upselling here so I’m very well aware of it but I just didn’t expect it to come from their establishment. You’d think that because of their attention to quality they’d have a way to filter out the not so good masseuses… And yeah, I agree. It was very unprofessional especially since I was literally facing up butt naked lmfao when this conversation took place. The whole dynamic of the situation def made it feel worse.

Don't confuse upselling (offering additional services) for a shakedown.  What you experienced was a shakedown - basically guilt tripping you into tipping more is even less acceptable than upselling in my book.

This happened to me and Sebastian at TSMS. I had a 90 minute and tipped 100%

Next time I went there his massage was lazy, thinking he was having an off day I just went with it. When I flipped over I thought he asked if I had been there before and I said “yes, I had you last time” and he responded “yes I remember, and you didn’t tip me good enough.”

I haven’t been back since. Sorry this happened to you :(

I'm not familiar with David. I'm surprised this happened there, Lynn wouldn't allow it.

I'm curious what a spa massuer thinks is a good tip.

Tim, I've had great experience with Lucas and Norik(?).

Certainly bringing up tips during the massage is a buzz kill.  Your feelings are justified.

New to this massive spa scene in NYC.

Do any of the spas have websites where you can see their masseurs and book with one you like what you see or one that has been recommended on this site?

Or is it just luck of the draw once you get there and they have already assigned you someone? Or is it like in Thailand, when you show up & have to pick from a pool of those available then?

Can you imagine mine? I was too stunned to even say anything to Lynn there.

And I’m curious as well! I genuinely want to know for the future.

ikr??! Come to think of it, he also did bring it up the first time I had him. I just didn’t think much of it then because he probably just thought that I didn’t know a tip is required for the extra service or bec I look pretty young and just assumed that I just had no idea how this things works and simply wanted to give me a heads up. Regardless, it’s a weird and inappropriate question to ask especially before the service is even rendered.

Fabio, Eddie & Mark don’t have pictures on the site which is funny since Fabio & Eddie are two of the most attractive staff members.

A friend of mine had a session with Max at Top Men Spa yesterday. He was completely satisfied with it. He said Max is just as described here: muscular, cute face and slight furry chest. He recommends booking Max! He booked Max based on the recommendations of this board so thanks to everyone who reports back! :)

Anyone know if Max is still at Top Men Spa? Sounds like he would be a great experience! Also looking for any other muscular masseur recommendations in NYC...

What does Sebastian at TSMS look like? Skinny, longer hair, medium height and a little scruffy?  TSMS is my go to and did a walk in a few weeks ago.  Took the guy who answered the door against my instincts as I got a lazy, cold feeling from him.  Terrible massage, no technique, just all the way up and down my body from top to bottom over and over.  Then he asked me for a minimum of a $60 tip.  I asked for his name so I wouldn't get him again, but it was different than anyone who they said was working when I had called before I went in.  He said why do you want to know and then told me Chris.  I knew he was lying. Disappointing as that was my first bad experience there.

Timothy, you are OBLIGATED to report this to management  -- not legally, of course, but for the benefit of the management, and for all of us.   Whether you tipped David $6 or $60 or $600, his behavior was  TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!    And, yes, $60 is generous.

Please contact the management of Top Men Spa.  They will thank you for doing so.

Had a similar experience at tsms which I go to all the time , usually always see the same masseur but he wasn’t there the one time and saw Adam , okay massage. Then next visit my usually guys back and at the end he says “I heard you tipped Adam more than me” it was so uncomfortable and not true , haven’t been back in a few months since then which sucks cause I liked it there

I found the massuers at Energy competitive. I wonder if massuers have their own forum and critique us....

I've seen the rivalry between massuers at different spas. It can be awkward when you see two of the massuers you used and have to go with one of them.
