In the part of the country where I grew up,  barbers tended to be blue-collar Italian -Americans.  The shop where my father took me for my haircut was owned by an older brother and his two younger brothers worked for him - all three of them were that Guido type of sexy - black hair, heavy beards, hairy arms, etc. .  As a little boy, I swooned when any of them picked me up and put me in the barber chair to get my hair cut.
