For the gay people reacting to Colton Underwood coming out and daring to “monetize” it with a reality series: Don’t watch it. But it is progress when being gay can be monetized and when gay people can be marketed to... and it is also progress when that can seem boring. For him to come out took courage. No, he is not Harvey Milk, yes, it was harder coming out years ago, but for reasons that perplex me it has been demonstrated that it is still very hard for many people. I am not against him monetizing his "gayness"....... I resent him making it a sham. He is gay, he was always Gay and he knew it. He didnt need to concoct his "I was str8 but tormeted" bullshit..... He wasnt searching for a WIFE when he went on the Bachelor, he just wanted to get on TV.... Attention w*ores do that kinda stuff, instead of just living in their truth, which would not have given him the National attention he craved. He was counting on people like YOU, @Lucky to make his scam work ! I guess you are just a sucker for every pretty face ?

I enjoyed watching that, but remember feeling offended at having all of those straight men in the lineup. What message would it have put out if he'd chosen a straight man? That gay men ultimately really want straight men? That's definitely not the case for myself. I'd love it if they'd continue to have similar shows, could be on Logo, I guess, but without the straight men.

 

It was as if the network assumed that there needed to be straights in the mix to make it appealing to a broad audience. Or maybe the network and producers just couldn’t take gay romance seriously. Whatever the reason, the inclusion of straight men in Boy Meets Boy offended me.

I question whether gay folks’ visibility in reality TV, especially in Colton’s case, counts as progress. As we’ve seen over and over again, the genre now peddles to audiences’ base instincts by recycling stereotypes of historically marginalized groups, presenting these groups as infantile, irresponsible, and ultimately, laughable. I can’t imagine Colton’s Netflix show doing the coming out journey justice, especially for those of us who are not tall, white, muscular, conventionally attractive cisgender men. Perhaps I’ll be proven wrong, but as of now, I suspect his show will present oversimplified and stereotypical depictions of the coming out process that will entertain instead of empower.

 

But again, perhaps I’ll be proven wrong.

Check out this story on Buzzfeed News. In it, he neither confirms nor denies his actions, but he does mention she dropped the charges after he was able to "address her concerns."

I had an opportunity to talk to James the Boy in Boy Meets Boy. He was in Philadelphia to read for a role in a film with Matthew Rush. James liked all the attention, was more attractive than on television, but still a babe in the woods. So he didn't care that many of Boys were straight.

What's so surprising? Most of the bi or straight-ish men I've been with are bottoms. If you look at G4P porn actors, the vast majority are bottoms.

Let's don't confuse hookups (free sex) with Gay-For-Pay pornstars and escorts. Many of them have said it's easier for them to bottom for a guy, there have been rumors about SC and CF using special numbing creams for them not feel much down there while they're getting fucked. I'm not a Doctor, don't get mad if I err on details... ?

 

I'm NOT saying most bi, bi curious or straightish guys are tops but when money gets involved some folks might do things they won't do for free/fun.

Damn if they do and damn if they don't because some might denounce it as "gay/queer baiting" by straight guys or in the case of Colton a last attempt to get more minutes of fame as already posted by others in this thread.
