Escort Locations?

On Rent.Men, I've noticed recently a couple of odd things with escort locations on there and am curious if I could find answers here.

So one former regular recently came back into town but I didn't see his ad for a bit because he was listed as Glendale, Colorado, a small little enclave within Denver where he was actually apparently staying for the time at a hotel there. This is odd because Glendale is quite a small city entirely surrounded by Denver and it would be much better if he set his location as Denver to get more clients.

Another escort in Denver has his location set as Cherry Creek, Colorado, which is actually not a city at all but rather the rich "upscale" neighborhood of Denver with like all the expensive stores and high-rent apartments. Knowing this escort a bit, I think this was a deliberate choice in some attempt maybe to get wealthier clients. Although it's kind of a strange choice since this escort is not showing up when you search "Denver" and only shows up if you are especially looking at this wealthy neighborhood.

My question to escorts on here is this: How does RM set your location? Is it done automatically? Or do you actually physically select where you want it to say you are?

I notice that most Denver escorts when you look at them on the map it shows basically Civic Center, like the main square downtown where the Capitol and City Hall are located. I assume this is the default "Denver" map location. And there are some that obviously are using the GPS to give a more precise location. But can you physically change the map? Put in another address to show as your location?

Just curious about how the locations work on Rent.men. I am traveling soon and I do like to use the map feature to kind of see who is really around me. Though of course I know which ones are just the generic "city location" and which ones are maybe actually nearby.

I can't answer the exact question about naming, since I have never advertised on rentmen , but when looking at an ad in a city I know well, like Philly, I like to use the "map me" feature. I almost always see the location pinpointed as the City Hall area--which is unlikely for an escort--but occasionally I see the pin in some other neighborhood, so the advertiser must have some opportunity to choose something more specific.

Yeah, I am wondering if you have the option to do like the "general city" location or pinpoint your specific location using GPS or whatever. I did tell my regular about him only showing up in Glendale and he did end up switching it to the general Denver location so they definitely have some control over it. That's kind of why I'm curious to hear from an escort who advertises on Rent.Men. What options does the site give you for that?

We can basically pick where we want to advertise. If an escort lives in a small town near a big metro area they may list the metro area vs. the small town. Also we can pick our home location and add "near travel" locations I'd say within an hour or so outside of the home city.

Thanks for the information. I was thinking it was something like that but wasn't for sure.

Rentmen has expanded the local locations to nearby cities that are technically attached to DC and in most cases share the same transportation system (bus and metro) like Hyattsville, Arlington, Bethesda, etc. I'm sure they are doing the same everywhere else.

I will also add that we are able to input an actual address, a city, or just a GPS point. When we are traveling to a city (or if you just enter a city) it picks the city center. Often times guys will update to an actual location when traveling to be more accurate, since the big sites are still bad at locations.

Thanks. And you're able to input whatever address you want basically? It doesn't have to be GPS or city center? That's what I've been seeing I think, but just not sure how much control escorts on Rent.men have over their locations. Sounds like quite a lot acually.

Yup! I have my address input to mine. But you can’t see that on the front end - it just helps give a general location of where I am considering it’s an urban district.

Thanks Shawn. Also you're reminding me that I need to get over to Atlanta sometime to meet with you. Such a handsome dude. :)

It's good that you bring this up, in fact I was just in Denver and was able to see how all of this works. Rentmen just recently updated a lot of the cities now. I think it's good that they are including more neighborhoods, but there is a problem with 2 things to be aware of:

"Glendale" area is pretty much any of those hotels along S. Colorado Blvd. On the advertiser end, when a provider clicks on "find me, show current/home location", the map will place the provider wherever their location is. With the addition of smaller towns and cities (this was something Rentboy used to do years ago), one can easily be defaulted to a smaller, lesser known location.

Having just finished a 45 day tour this week, I've seen 1st hand how it works in many cities. Phoenix is another area with lots of towns within the metro. So if a provider just clicks "find me" and share map...they could end up being placed in a town that's not under the main city: e.g. Cherry Creek instead of Denver

The issue with the additional options is: if an advertiser clicks the automated map me feature, it may list them in a location that’s not of the main city they may want to be in: e.g. Glendale instead of Denver (or Los Angeles or Phoenix since both cities also have a suburb named Glendale). In fact, Glendale has its own police department, which I learned after a buddies liquor store was robbed at gunpoint ? always something in Colorado, right?

However, the fix is easy: just ensure your map is pinpointed to the main city, but turn off the map me feature. Otherwise clients may see it and think you’re in an area that you’re not. I personally prefer to keep mine off unless I’m actually in the city area, and show as such. I did use Cherry Creek a couple of times, because it was the location I was in, and it gives a chance to standout amongst the sea of ads which is Denver.

That said, I was happy with the level of biz happening in Denver this go. Idk if it was 1 thing or a combination of things. I do know that I wasn’t trying to do a lot of “hanging out” and kept a hotel location the entire time, versus crashing with friends and hoping to get advanced appointments. The only things that slowed it down, was the 2nd blizzard BEFORE the 3rd big blizzard. Which caused a couple appointments to fall thru. By the time of the 3rd one, I was already clear out to Arizona lol

Thanks for bringing this up. I’m planning a trip to LA the first weekend of May and noticed that most of the guys that put their location as LA are all in the same spot...oddly across the street from the police department. So I guess they only pick the generic position of LA. Since LA is so large I was hoping that feature would be more handy when picking a place to stay. I’m not into spending the entire day in the car trying to get some where but then again it’s LA. Since LA has it’s own set of norms....like paying to park at nearly every decent hotel downtown, I decided to bite the bullet and stay further out so I’m not paying $35 a day to park my car. Hopefully when the provider says LA they mean it and not the valley or San Diego.... I’m so nervous this trip will cost way more than I‘m budgeting for.

Lol, this! That's why it's important manually choose an area that's in the city. If a new client sees something like that, he could get freaked out and think it's some kinda of operation going on. I've seen a few cities default to a governmental buildings, including what you mentioned.

L.A. is a city where I think the extra listings are important. L.A. could be anywhere within a 75 mile radius. But, I can understand why someone wouldn't want to be defaulted to one neighborhood for opportunity reasons.

Interesting details. Thanks Jarrod. I did see you were in town. Glad you had a good experience this time around. Yeah Glendale is a weird location because it really is just a handful of hotels, apartments, a Target and some strip clubs along Colorado Boulevard. It's not very big at all so surprising to see people in it, but understanding when it makes that your default. Cherry Creek I could see make more sense because it's considered "upscale" so certainly there might be some clients looking for that kind of thing. Actually a lot of apartments in Glendale like to pretend they are in Cherry Creek to fool people that don't know any better. Haha.

Thanks again for the detailed information. I was really thinking that Rent.Men must have changed their location settings seeing all of these random locations pop up. Glad to confirm that is the case and I will be cognizant of that as I am about to do a two-week road trip.

I just scrolled through all the NY cities and yea they have a few really random suburbs of Buffalo now. Not even the biggest ones. Very weird!

Yeah, I'm thinking of sending an email to Rentmen letting them know my thoughts. But, I figure they did their research and have their reasons. But Adam4Adam used to do the same thing as well: lots of cities and neighborhoods to search in. Great for proximity purposes, but not great when your neighborhood has the same 3 guys online day in, day out. That's why I prefer if things were simply separated by area: north Chicago, south Chicago, west Chicago, east Chicago. Far north, far west, far south, etc.

I learned that scam when I first was looking for places in Denver lol. If the budget is less than $1,200 a month, cherry creek was actually Glendale, or worse: Leetsdale. I was looking at apartments that looked nice on the outside, but when there's 1 washer and dryer for the whole floor of units...that's not cherry creek lol. Some of those areas are even a bit sketch. Not dangerous, but not quite highlands ranch.

Reminds me of when in Miami back in the day: all those "close to the beach" budget motels were actually more populated by palmetto bugs than actual tourists. Some of these properties give neighbourhoods a bad name.
