I'd say you've covered most of the reasons. I usually think of it as a fantasy encounter that I can make happen by paying. It might happen without (although increasingly unlikely as we age), but if I want it now, I'll just buy it.

It is certainly NOT reality. By which I mean it is important to understand that escorts are not a source of love and affection. To expect that would be self-deluding.

To me, as long as it's safe and taken as simple lust-fulfilling pleasure, it's a healthy outlet.

For me, it began when I was a relatively young man, new to the big city, shy about approaching the hot guys in the bars who I really wanted to get down with, and uncomfortable in a bar setting because I don't drink and don't smoke and couldn't take standing around late at night, being very much a morning person. There was really little alternative to the bars then, olther than the baths, where one went for a hook-up, not to find a lover.
