My first visit to this website was to learn about pulp fiction in the fifties. I never bought any gay erotica back when I was closeted. I imagine it took real balls to go to a newsstand and pick up a novel like this one:

The homohistory site gives a little bit of pulp fiction history, and has a number of covers to see:

I remember a very hateful look picking up a copy of "Playgirl". It was in the mid-80's when they briefly stopped showing nudes, the first issue proclaiming "The Nudes Are Back!" I may still have it. This was at a small liquor store with a magazine section. I got another weird look from the clerk at a drinks/snack shop in an office building, buying an exercise magazine loaded with hot guys, I definitely still have that one.

I used to buy those mags in the 80’s at the liquor store across the street from the Boom in Laguna. There was also a gay video store in South Laguna at the time where I first rented two Peter Berlin titles on VHS. One time the cute clerk giggled when he rang me up and I asked why? He showed me a notation next to my name that said “cute”. I was easily flattered.

When I was 12, I went into a regular drug store and found a male magazine that had B&W pix of naked guys butts. No one paid me any attention, so I couldn't have shown my excitement. I was so sure that the priest would be livid with me in confession, but he simply said that curiosity about the human body was normal.

But when I first went to porno shops, I was trying to be invisible and got very embarrassed when the clerk at checkout pointed out what nice dick the cover guy had.

All of that is interesting. But for me, a non-Catholic, that you would bring it up in your confession, is very interesting. Were you that devout, or were you scared of eternal damnation?

Guilt was instilled in us by the nuns. I was too young to know any better.

One thing we knew even before we had any idea that it was going to be a sex tool was don't touch your dick except to pee. Anything else was a sin!!! But, why mommy?

I confessed “adultery” when I was about 8-9. That commandment was the catch all for all sex sins, I’d looked at a playboy. I honestly think the priest was smiling!

I'd be flattered by that, too.
