Do a lot of people fall for this sending cash first game ? Join me in filming a porn scene, just send cash... I want to have crazy sex with you at my place, first just send cash, etc....

I am always shocked when guys ask for cash before I have even seen them!

Others?

I just wonder how many guys a day they chat with ? I never report anything except that RIP OFF Fraud crap!

I have been hiring escorts for 5 years now and I agree some boys are simply advertising as escorts in order to scam people. However, I also have experience serving as secretary to a few amazing providers. Doing this job has taught me that the "Legit to Scammer" ratio is much more positive on the escort side than it is on the client side. I'd say the guys I help out get about 100 inquiries per day, 65 of them are guys just trying to talk dirty, guys who know the escort in real life and are trying to mess with them, or guys trying to scam their way into getting with the escort then ditching when it comes time to pay. Even going so far as to send an ACH deposit that will show pending for days and then bounce after the booking ends. About 30 typically want to pay well below what the escort wants to get paid or aren't even in the same city but ask if you'll the escort would visit for a 1 hour session, and maybe 5 turn out to be legit serious clients.... In my hiring experience, I've tried contacting plenty escorts who never responded or truly sucked at communicating. I've had guys who were duds in person or who didn't do everything we agreed to. But 99 percent of the guys Ive spent money on were who they said they were, and showed up. The overwhelming majority of calls and texts an escort gets are from broke ass wankers trying to have phone sex, scammers, idiots and young guys or physically fit guys thinking they can use rentmen like Grindr, and guys who shouldn't be hiring because they can't afford it.

I can understand how being asked for a deposit to confirm an appointment can make you weary. But it's pretty easy these days to verify that the escort and his pics are real. It's extremely difficult to figure out which inquiries are real and which are complete wastes of time.

Thanks for your response.

I am referring to the scam on Grindr, etc, not specifically Rent Men. However, to your point, I say the same thing I say to guys who run any biz - if you don't like it, find ssomething else.

Funny that this popped up. I hate Grindr, the damn pop up ads you're forced to sit through, the ageism, and the fake profiles using other peoples pics to scam you. I've had to report several profiles pretending to be friends of mine where they've stolen their pics off instagram. Just yesterday I had someone hit me up asking if I liked massages. No location data and a very sparse profile. The pic is of a forum member here who is a provider but lives hundreds of miles away. The person then proceeded to send more pics, of the same person, and told me to click a link to schedule which used a tinyURL which obfuscates the actual site. I questioned the person twice and said I knew the person in the pic and they never responded, just kept up with the scam. I reported him immediately and his profile was gone in a half hour.

I never have these issues with Scruff.

That's what I am talking about... it must be profitable if they continue to do it!

I believe as the trend continues, what you said will be turned around. Most professional escorts will be requiring deposits from every unknown and unverified new customer, and if ya don't like it then move on to the next one.

General question to anyone. What are the best general alternatives to Grindr? There are lots of 'speciality' apps I see, but I don't really have a sexual fetish for any one type of guy (okay, I've been known to notice a beautiful ass). From my quick and cursory review:

Adam4Adam seems to be on a decline.

Romeo - seems a more international (non-North American) app

Scruff - older/hairy guys and kind of clunky non-user friendly

Better ones out there in terms of use and broader appeal?

Adam4Adam is a joke. 99% of the messages I get are from people cat fishing who list U.S. cities as home but GPS shows them over 5,000 miles away. They are invariably looking for long-term relationships and selling themselves like it’s a job interview. On top of that, the lazy and stupid scammers provide pictures of a relatively well built guy and their profile lists stats like 6’6” 140lbs with a 39” waist.

Any positive alternatives to Grindr that you know of?

Nope. I’m with you about Grindr. I’ve pretty much given up on that app. Nothing but a bunch of pic collectors and game players. I love getting messages from guys with no personal info or a pic whose first message is “Pic?” And I’m not one of these “no pic no chat” guys who goes ballistic if a guy doesn’t have a profile pic. It’s just as easy to post a fake profile pic as it is to send one via chat, so there’s risk either way. Scruff is basically Grindr’s hairy brother.

I never thought I’d miss the days where you had to physically go out to a bar or club to cruise for action, but at least you knew what you were getting and there really wasn’t as much bullshit or game playing.

You are spot on, 100 PERCENT! It’s exactly what I was discussing in my other thread, tired.

As a provider, I have cash app along with 2 other apps. Because of the exact issues you mentioned, I tend to ask clients who want me to host to make a deposit. Few things is more concerning and frustrating than giving out an address to someone, and they cancel or don’t show up. I’m aware that there are scammers out there doing something dishonest, but it’s not all. In my case, this would be a typical reply someone would get:

“So that I can confirm this visit, please send $$ to one of my booking links, so that I know this is an appointment being made. You may do so via one of the following:”

I don’t know what’s going on with adam4adam. I’m also noticing something else, where it seems people are creating profiles...not necessarily of someone else, but perhaps themselves. And it’s just 1 picture with 1 bit of information, such as their age. One yesterday even gave me his number and he seemed local. But sure enough, he flaked out, after 10 minutes went by of him sending me a message asking for pics. Saying, “nevermind I guess, sorry to have bothered you.” And then didn’t respond back to any of my other messages I sent to arrange the appointment.

There was a follow up with him today, and sure enough he gave some lame excuse about having not received the pics I sent (likely because he blocked me shortly after sending the above message).

That’s exactly why my blocked list on adam4adam is LONG. Something like 9 pages. They need to stop letting people fill out half ass information. Make them fill out the WHOLE profile, as a minimum. They letting too many slip thru the cracks.

You mean like these?

The latest and greatest from A4A. Notice the location and distance. I’m outside of Philly. A good 90% of the scam messages are either 5,186 or 5,226 miles from me. Either the scammers are all centrally located or there’s some foreign land whose population is all gay men. Neither of those locations is anywhere near that far. Plus, the first one has Maryland as the state and a California county listed. The only thing worse than a scammer is a lazy scammer.

Lol, exactly like that. However, in the case of the one I mentioned above...it appeared he was a local distance, and further screening seemed to reveal it was a person local to the area as well. So, perhaps it was just a lazy person trying to hookup versus a scammer. But definitely anyone 5,000 miles away is going to be fake.

I want to keep my a4a, considering it’s a good price for all the listings. And it’s particularly helpful in smaller markets. But I don’t know what more to do. There’s no real system that works with that site. Sometimes I can’t even get to the deposit part, or the confirming part, because many of them will sound real genuine, and just out of nowhere flake and stop responding to messages. I send them real professional instructions on how to schedule, and there’s no regard for it. I can see them reading the messages, and I may even follow up. And they still read it, and don’t respond.

Actually, the only system that does work is blocking anyone who randomly stops responding to messages, and making sure any contacts are done off the site. But in the case of 1 stat man...he ended up contacting me off site, with his phone number, but it was only to ask for my private pictures. When I unlocked, he 1 claimed he couldn’t see them because he was at work (what the fuck does that have to do with it, don’t you have data?), and 2 he didn’t respond and lied to my assistant about not seeing the screenshot of my ad I sent him.

That’s exactly why I said in my other thread, that site has become a scam because the people using it are fraudulent. I’m going to write to them and include a link to this thread, and tell them if they can’t figure out a way to keep scammers off their site, I’m pulling my membership. It may be something as simple as making it mandatory for users to fill out ALL info AND to have a PIC. I recently stopped taking clients who contact who don’t have a profile pic.

On Grindr i have come across a few guys that offer services such as massage and more that have several pics and engage in a slow conversation and send a location but they also then send a link for you I block to book and pay a 5 dollar booking fee. I block.

Well, if you read some of the things I and another discussed above, you’ll start to understand why some may do that. I ask for a deposit.

Gay men who are hiring gay providers need to:

#1: practice being less dismissive

#2: practice being less passive aggressive

People just to conclusions and automatically assume someone is a scam because they ask for deposit. Granted, on Grindr, which is a free site...you really can’t be guaranteed anything because it’s a free site with very little verification. But if people book on there, it’s the risk that’s taken. That’s why I don’t sell my services on Grindr. I want to be able to say,

“hey, I paid for this ad. I’m not a scammer or a cop. Why the fuck would I pay $30, $40, even $80 a month, every month, with the SAME profile I’ve had month AFTER month.... to advertise on a platform, if I was not serious about my craft?”

If paying for a deposit is a scary thing, ASK. If someone says how do I know you’re not a scammer? I’ll send them my card or other ad links. I could also send them my https://justfor.fans/JarrodBrandonXX?tab=AddMedia to show, I’m an actual guy, who’s into fucking other guys. Plus, most times if you question a scammer, you’ll get either a robotic response, or non at all.

I know there’s still going to be a lot of wary and scammers, but a deposit isn’t going to be an automatic red flag.
