Meeting other Hoovillians

Not sure whether it's still kosher to call this place "Hooville," but whatever.

 

I'm just curious how many others here have met fellow posters, reviewers, etc. In my case, I've met only one - KYTop - when he was in Mpls 4 years ago, but I expect to meet another prominent poster when he travels here tomorrow.

 

What are others' experiences with meeting up with our crew?

I've met two working guys on here Raul and Andre (now retired) off here both while in Chicago. My experience meeting them was very positive and hope to meet up with Raul again if he has the time when I am out there in two weeks. I've briefly met Lucky and his bf while he was in Seattle again a positive meeting all though brief cause I think they were on their way to get food. Boobers and I were sitting at our favorite coffee shop minding our own and Lucky asked if I was Greg. I didn't know who the heck he was and was kind of stand offish till he told me who he was. I'd love to meet up with Lucky again if the opportunity came up. Also met a former poster on here (forgot his user name) a couple times and it was good. And I met Daddy a few months back. All the controversy aside I found Daddy to be a really nice guy who's heart and passion is where it belongs. I think over all he is a very caring guy and happy to call him my neighbor even though he lives about an hour north of me.

The LA contingent has (had?) those hooville dinners every so often. Before I left SF a group of us from this board met a couple of times; it was sparsely attended but fun nonetheless. I would like to see an informal get-together like that here in NYC. Rentboy has thrown a couple events where I've met a few of my colleagues, but a mixed escort/ hoovillian shindig would be cool too.

A search is probably called for but I think there was a group in NY or maybe DC that met from time to time. Maybe find out who it was setting up the meetings and get a hold of him to set something up?

Several years ago (4 I think) there was a large number of posters who met in RIO for an event on the hotel roof. The party was the result of much effort by a few dedicated souls who ended up being taken advantage of by a few who didn't pay their way. I believe we had between 20 and 30 posters ( could be off either way) and I met quite a few of them (and still see some when I go to RIO).

 

I have also had the pleasure of meeting members when I traveled to New York, Florida, Denver and Atlanta.

 

Have met some of the locals through the Hooville dinners and Palm Springs parties and am still in touch with several.

 

I think meeting guys from here has been a great blessing for me and I heartily recommend it.

I believe a group in DC gets together whenever KY_TOP (he gets around ;-)) visits. The LA crowd still gets together once in a while.

 

We had a couple of unofficial get-togethers in Chicago when I lived there. I even got Hooboy to attend one, sorta by accident.

 

The magic thing that needs to happen to make one of these things happen is someone needs to say "Hey, let's have dinner at <location> on <date>. Let me know and I'll make reservations!"

 

If you build it, they will come. And it's always great fun.

I have had the pleasure of meeting some fellow posters, both past and present, on my trips to Montreal. I have met up with Firecat, JayNNJ, newatthis, Bigguypasadena and TxAlphaDog..It was great fun and educational to spend time with each of these people as I learned my way around Montreal. Not every person who posts here is going to like every other poster, and that is also true when meeting other Hoovillieans. I have been lucky enough to meet about 40 posters personally,and have formed some very nice friendships as a result. Other meetings were less successful, but I do encourage you to try it.

 

Lucky is an internet identity that I created. The person is not always the same as I often use this forum for different reasons, the main one to entertain myself. Off the board some may find me pleasant to be with, and others meet me and just move on. Either one is fine with me as I think one cannot expect too much from these meetings. The friendships are a real bonus, though. We all are very different indivuduals with at least this one thing in common...we like escorts!

Seriously, if you like freshwater fishing, there are some AWESOME spots to fly into in Canada.

I know of Flin Flon but never went there. The furthest north that I have gone in Manitoba is The Pas.

There are lots of good lakes that are fly in lakes in this area. I caught a nice 13 pound walley a sevearal years back. I drove into that lake with the 4x4 that I had at the time. Had to chain saw something like 19 trees that had fallen onto an old unused road, to get into the lake.

There is also a spot a few hundred miles north of here called Pickel Lake. Knobby's air flys people into some excellent lakes in that area.

We have two companies that fly people into lake in this area. The one company used single tubo Otters. The other one uses two or three Twin Beachcraft, Cessna Caravans, and the oldest working Beaver which has the serial number 3, they also have another Beaver with the serial number 13. Many planes in this area are old, but all are in excellent condition.

They do not allow logging roads near the fly in lakes, so the only way in is by plane unless someone was to portage into a lake, and I have done that before too, but one has to be in good physical condition to do that.

I don't know if anyone remembers the American Wrestling Association which was based out of Minneapolis. Several of their wrestlers would fly into lakes in this area on a regular basis.

The bush is a strange thing though....either you love it or you hate it, and many people have a hard time dealing with being in such a remote area.

I've met one poster from this board (I was at a conference not far from where he lived--we met up late one night at a (bad) stripper bar and went to an all night diner for an early morning breakfast)--and keep up e-mail converstaion with him on a regular basis and a few others on a not so regular basis. I also keep up an e-mail relationship with someone from the Muscle Service Forums, but I haven't actually met him in person.

For me it started with an invitation from jackhammer 4-5 years (?) ago while I was visiting LA for the first time. He suggested we meet for lunch, I was a bit leery at first but thought what the hell. We joined deej for lunch somewhere, had a grand time, and I'm still getting to meet new guys as I travel. I've honestly enjoyed every meeting and LOOOOONG meal I've had with each of them. It is great to meet so many people with so much in common.
