My co-worker teaches a financial literacy and budgeting class that I sometimes overhear. She talks a lot about how that $5 a day mocha latte adds up more than $1000 a year that could be going to other financial goals. It got me thinking, not about cutting back this hobby, but more just about how much I spend on it. I estimate that I have spent about $7,500 in the about two and a half years or so that I have been engaging in hiring. I don't regret it and in fact save and cut back on other things to engage in this as it makes me happy.

But just curious about how other view this expense. How much have you spent on this hobby? Do you feel it's worth it? Is it easily within your budget or do you have to cut other expenses to afford it? Just curious about how others manage their finances in what can be an expensive hobby.

I don't actually budget. When I had, or if I had extra funds, mostly from gambling winnings, I hired more. Since mid 2015, when I began to hire, I spent approx $8,400, not counting when I sometimes spent money/points on hotels/meals for a night in town. Nice to get into the city for a while, and then can avoid driving into/out of the city just for a short meet. So probably around $10-11 grand total.

Unfortunately, the gambling winnings/extra funds dried up, so I basically stopped gambling, and curtailed hiring. Have not actually hired since Nov. 2018, but it's also been for other reasons besides funding.

Currently budgeting the income for a bathroom remodel, and the last of the new appliances for the kitchen, and hopefully (knock on wood), won't have to replace the washer/dryer. But, had to get a new laptop, and iPad, as both are dying.

I currently have $400 stashed in my fun-fund folder, so I may treat myself before the end of the year.

Occasionally, I get a lottery ticket(s), so if luck strikes, perhaps I'll be back in the game.

Interesting way to use your winnings. I definitely would hire more if I struck rich that way.

Last year about 15k, probably closer to 20k this year. In fact I’m doing more event hiring - overnights, weekends away - although the cadence has stayed the same.

Don’t regret a penny of it. I’m also not saving for a rainy day. What’s the point? Live whilst you can is my motto.

You actually piqued my interest so I took at look at my ATM withdrawals (only took a couple minutes with MINT, yay!!!!) and I spent about $10K on escorts over the past 12 months, and I'm fine with that number. I tend to hire more when I'm really busy at work and hiring an escort actually EARNS me money! I could easily spend a couple hours on GRINDR trying to hookup and finding what I'm looking for and someone who's into me and what I'm looking for and who is available when I want and isn't a flake.... If instead I focused on work for those two hours and billed $400/hr, I'm up $800. I might only spend 15 mins picking out an Escort on RM or zero if I just text one of my regulars and just schedule with which type I'm in the mood for. I'm then less stressed at work and have something nice to look forward to after a stressful day. After paying $300 to the provider, I'm still up $500 vs the "free" route.

Financially I do whatever I want, travel, have fun and also save more than 30% of what I earn, and hiring hasn't forced me to cut back on any of that. So 100% worth it.

Basically, to hire, I use only money that I don’t actually need.

Yeah fortunately I have a very solid pension and retirement fund that I put extra money into so I feel like I'll be good for retirement. I live in a fairly small studio apartment. While I could afford a nicer, larger place, I'd rather spend that money on traveling and this hobby.

I'm pretty OCD when it comes to money, so I actually have a line-item for hiring. It's slightly less than 10K a year, which doesn't harm my income.

Nonetheless, I do feel guilty, because I'm also OCD about saving money. I pay into my 401k (10% of my income), and into another savings plan (where I save 14% of my gross income, or 25% of my net income). And the more I save, the better.

I will say this - before I started hiring, I barely spent anything on personal luxuries. It's literally the most money I spent on myself.

Over the last seventeen years I would guesstimate that I have spent, on average, between $10,000 and $12,000 per year. Since I have recently begun to limited myself to hiring only one guy I find I am spending considerably less. I'm now traveling and cruising alone and with friends more and more. As I have aged my interested have evolved.

Balance is the key! Also you don’t want to spend on someone worthless!

Yes! I definitely think that's why this forum and the reviews are so important. If we're going to spend our hard-earned money on this hobby, it definitely should be with someone worth it.

I agree with someone else on this thread who said money spent hiring should be treated like money thrown away - money we can afford to lose. Nonetheless, good escorts deserve that money, not cheats.

Whether paying for a high-end star or newbie, it’s the definition of investing locally. Do they need the money more than I do at the moment that I’m hungry for ... a snack? Probably.

I actually think there are some escorts that make more money than I do. Both because they are successful and because my job is pretty middle middle class. One of my regulars insists on us going Dutch for our dinner dates because I hire for longer sessions and pay for theater tickets. After getting to know me, he recognizes (and is appreciative) of the significant portion of my monthly budget I spend on our time together.

I used to spend way more, then life threw a curve ball and now I have car payment. Now I try to budget for something more in line with massages with a perk. If I'm lucky I get a 2 for 1 special but the town I live in is so sparse of activity it seems I've hit a drought. I usually try to get away at least 3 times a year but I've had to cut back due to the car payment. Sigh.....it's way cheaper to get in my comfy recliner, get some lube and watch my favorite model or average Joe Schmoe and go till I get sleepy....
