He apparently died of pancreatic cancer. People have mentioned that his German accent remind them of male Marlene Dietrich. But Dietrich needed to return to Berlin to care for are ailing mother, and she was one of first people to enter Berlin. Her mother

Lagerfeld had a huge private library that inclunded many photo and art books. So research was one secret to his success.

 

The speculation about inheritance includes his cat and a German family (the kroenigs.) The father and the son have long been close to Lagerfeld. Over the last few years, he was seldom seen without the son there too.

Given he was working well past most models' sell-by date, odds are he did. I think most guys are pretty mercenary given the opportunity. And that profile certainly makes him seem like someone who puts a huge priority on a certain lifestyle.
