The new site

I agree with those who have stated they like the looks of the new site. I do understand that daddy is still "tweaking" the site, so I thought I would just share the one thing I found that I didn't care for and was wondering you guys thought.

 

When you go to the newest reviews, the list of reviewed escorts is on the same page as the particular review and therefore scrolls as you read. This makes for a lot of scrolling around to check out all the newest reviews. I personally would prefer having the list of reviewed escorts in a separate frame so they wouldn't scroll as you're reading the review itself.

 

What are your thoughts?

I agree. It would be much better to be able to read the reviews and then see the other new ones on the left column and be able to scroll and click on them seperately, like on hooboy's original site.

 

Asthetically, I do not care for the "cutesy" cartoon logo of "daddy" in the upper left corner.It reminds me of the Home Depot guy cartoon. I would not mind it somewhere on the page towards the bottom, or as a signature image on the news page. But I just don't think there is anything "sexy" about the look of it on the overall main page. I always liked the sexy torso pic on Hooboy's site on the upper banner. I like the overall look and colors and layout. It just needs a professional,sexy, stonger upper banner design.

 

But, hey,I am just glad it's back and at least most of the 2 year old reviews will be back in place.

I just sent email to Daddy last night with the same complaint. :o I'm also not crazy about the navigation in the "All reviews" section. There's too much "start over from the top". (Go check out all three countries listed under Asia to see what I mean. It's too many clicks.)

 

But in that same email, I said I think the U/I issues are unimportant compared with getting the reviews back up. :7

You might need to make sure you go through the top of the site: http://www.daddysreviews.com, not through the newest page.

 

On the Reviews page, there are three links in the left-most column: Submit a Review, Reviews, and All Reviews.

 

There are three different navigation systems going on: the strip across the top, the stack of bars down the left, and once you've drilled into a category the list of links to review pages. It's a little confusing, but I know he's still working out the kinks.

I like the new white background to read the reviews, rather than the cream color. The blue border is now consistent with the forum color scheme as well. It is nice to have the reviews back. To be down only two weeks is decent turn-around. Thanks for all the effort to get things back and running. I know there are plenty more additions to come and I look forward to seeing them down the line.

The best way to read the Reviews without a lot of scrolling after each one is to USE THE BACK BUTTON after each review.

It will take RIGHT BACK to where you were in the LEFT HAND column of Names to pick from without needing to keep scrolling from the top.

 

I found it very convenient and REALLY like the NEW Site for the ease of reading, etc.

If you have one of those newer keyboards with all the extra buttons but never used them, this would be an excellent time to start using that back button.

 

Or on an older keyboard, BACKSPACE has always done exactly the same thing. ;-)

I think the daily reviews on the new site are not as user friendly as the old site. Previously, one could quickly scan through the list of new reviews, click on the link and choose to read, or not, depending on whether the escort's picture peaked you interest.

 

With the new site it is much more time consuming to do this. Not an improvement in my eyes.

 

And although it's nice to see the actual text of the reviews is nice and clear, is it really necessary to have the type face THAT large? Reminds me of the Reader's Digest large type editions for seniors with failing eyesight.

In Firefox use the menu "View"/"Text Size"/"Decrease".

 

In Internet Explorer use the menu "View"/"Text Size"/"Smaller"

 

If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse. Then CTRL-<Scroll Wheel> will let you do it on the fly.

I appreciate the large font size (which isn't actually that large). I don't have to squint, and I don't have to compensate for the young hotshot web designers that hard-code font sizes in pixels so they only work for young eyes!

 

If you haven't noticed, the "average" member of the target audience of daddysreviews.com is no spring chicken. (And I say that with full love knowing I'm in the same group!) If the font size looks too large to you, I'm wondering what video resolution you're running?

 

One of the first tenets of HTML design is that it must render and be readable everywhere and for every reader. (Including accessibility guidelines for the visually impaired.) In all my tests in various browsers and at various video resolutions, Daddy is delivering something that everyone can adjust to their liking. That's a pretty impressive feat. I wish CNN.com would learn to do it. <sigh>

 

Let's have this discussion in a couple of weeks, after the site is actually open for business. It's still being tweaked daily, so discussion now is really pointless. We're discussing a moving target.

 

It's an area that will always be open for discussion, but right now the first priority is getting all the reviews back up.
