So, I'm in the Detroit area and we had leather expo here this weekend .One of the featured guests was (is) CutlerX. So, I sent him an email in advance asking about an appointment .He was pleasant but put me off saying, "Call me the weekend of the event.". So I did.

I called a number of times and got the phone service message that his box was full. I emailed and called several times over the weekend to no avail.

I confess that I'm pissed. I expected more from a professional. Another provider I had contacted, Timarrie Baker, was far more communicative and responsive.

Basically, not happy with Cutler's professionalism .

Am I too sensitive?

I presume he was very busy and entirely overwhelmed with contacts.....and/or was waiting to hear from some big-payday regulars

I wouldn't use 'too sensitive', but, rather, 'too assuming' to describe this situation! .....I'd be somewhat angry, too, if somebody I really wanted to meet didn't reply despite me following all the "rules".......

When he wouldn't book the appointment in advance, that to me would've been a sign it wasn't gonna happen.

This. It's up to each of us if we want to invest any energy is getting agitated about it. When I got this response from a guy coming to town that I had actually seen before, I figured it just wasn't going to work out on that trip and moved on without contacting him again.

Yes. Border line no-show review.

Totally disagree. If he never agreed to book an appointment with you then in no way imaginable is this a no show. Without a specific date and time that has been agreed to by both parties, there is no appointment booked.

“Call me the weekend of the event” = “I’m not in a position to commit now, but feel free to try me later”

I don’t think OP is being overly-sensitive to be disappointed. But anyone who would be “angry” to have not gotten an appointment despite having “followed the rules” has an entitlement issue. No escort is required to meet you. No matter how many rules you followed. Getting angry because someone was too busy to book an appointment with you is pointless.

I do agree that it’s not very professional to tell someone to contact you and then not be available to respond, but most escorts are one-man shows, and don’t have personal assistants to manage their contacts. If OP needed a guaranteed booking in advance, then being “put off” by the escort in question should have been a sign to move on.

When your disappointment and your anger are mixed then you have an entitlement issue. Point blank. OP used the works “put off”, which means he knew there was no appointment promised in the first place.

You’re assuming the OP is angry because he didn’t get an appointment, rather than he’s angry because the escort didn’t show the common courtesy of replying.

What’s the point in being angry that someone who’s in high demand doesn’t have the capacity to respond to hundreds of phone calls and e-mails? OP said the escort’s phone inbox was FULL. He’s clearly overwhelmed with messages.

I was also responding to this sentiment as well. You’re not entitled to an escort’s response. Sometimes the escort is busy. An escort is a human being, not a large corporation with staffing resources at its disposal. The escort in question is a featured guest at the event mentioned. I’m sure he has other things requiring his attention besides going through and responding to every single guy who he doesn’t have time to meet.

I think that perhaps it’s a situation of differing expectations and that neither party is particularly happy about the outcome.

I’m guessing Escort X has an expectation that he is obligated to communicate with those customers with whom he has committed to do business. If someone isn’t a client then they are due nothing.

I suspect that Client X has an expectation that he would be given some courtesy, in the form of a response, regardless of Escort’s availability by virtue of the fact that he was attempting to establish a business relationship.

Analogy 1:

“Hello, do you have any onion bagels in stock?”

“Nope.”

“Ok - can you give me a call when you do?”

“No way. I have way too many customers to respond to every potential future purchase.”

Analogy 2

“Hello, do you have any red Ferrari’s on the lot?”

“Nope. But if you give me your name and number I’ll give you a call when I do.”

“Great. I’ll come in and look then.”

If you’re selling a commodity in demand you don’t expect to have to maintain a relationship with a potential customer.

If you’re selling something of value in the present AND future then it makes sense to try to foster a relationship with a potential customer.

(The analogy doesn’t work in one regard... both bagels and Escort’s present hour are perishable and worthless if not used.... however Escort’s future hours are equally perishable.)

Escorts have the right to not respond to an enquiry. They don't have to provide a reason.

Escorts have the right to not accept a gig. They don't have to provide a reason.

My policy when this happens is to move on. I believe in voting with my wallet.

For most professional guys who tend to business somewhat well your analogies are true because they can't handle both servicing clients and clerical correspondence. But there is an analogy 3:

"Is this your phone under the couch?"

"Oh yeah. I was so strung out all weekend I forgot where I put it, I guess I should charge it up and make some money."

Move on… if he's so bad handling voicemails (listening, calling back, deleting them, etc.) and doesn't want to make plans in advance for a trip he may not even show up for an appointment.

Maybe he needs an agent managing his bookings.

To the OP, you have the right to feel whatever you feel about someone's behavior toward you.

.

Am I too sensitive?

I ask myself a different question in situations like these: "Am I overreacting?/Is my response disproportianate to the situation?"

Not so much for the other party involved but to make sure I'm not making myself actively feel worse by harbouring negative emotions.

That said, I too find it quite frustrating and annoying when people (whether they are escorts or not) don't follow their own ruleset or don't follow up on promises or agreements. I'm still learning to handle that in a way that doesn't upset me.
