Lois Lane can make her own choice, but us gay guys will inevitably have our own preference after seeing Superman Returns. Charlie and I were first in our neighborhood to take in the highly entertaining movie, which features the return of Superman only to find that Lois has a new beau, James Marsden. It's well-cast in that Marsden's character is no wimp from whom Superman can easily win Lois back.

For my money, ($6.50), I would take the eminently fuckable Marsden over the more plastic Ken doll Superman. Marsden's mouth was made for cocksucking and his eyes would rule any bedroom. Superman is too super for me, even in the tight suit. As for Kevin Spacey, well, really. He can walk his dog in the park!

I haven't seen it yet. Don't spoil it for me :-)

I'm going to see it this weekend.

Well I saw it today for only $5.50 and I kept looking for that well publicized bulge in the the tights but didn't see much. Despite Roger Ebert's 2 star review I thought it was pretty good. Routh does seem pretty plastic and I'd go with Marsden also. Up, up and away!

After paying $10.75 to see it (this is New York, where everything is most expensive....) I agree that Marsden is the hotter squeeze than Routh, who seemed rather callow to me. Marsden has the more interesting looks, and I thought every bit as macho as the "man of steel."

One thing that really put me off - during close-ups, it appeared that Routh was HEAVILY made up to conceal wrinkles, zits, etc., to the extent of looking really strange. Same for the Lois Lane character. If they are going to do extreme close-ups on the face, they'd better figure out a way to be less obvious about all the make-up they are slathering on. (By contrast, Marsden did not appear to be heavily made up, but then he didn't get the same close-up exposure as the others.)

The latest controversay about this film is a subtle change in dialog. According to the Hollywood Reporter:

[ol]

But in the latest film incarnation, scribes Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris sought to downplay Superman's long-standing patriot act. With one brief line uttered by actor Frank Langella, the caped superhero's mission transformed from "truth, justice and the American way" to "truth, justice and all that stuff."[/ol]

So, besides being gay, is Superman now unamerican?

I also heard that the heavy make-up was necessary because of the computer animation that was intermixed in the film. Not sure I understand that one but that's what a local movie critic stated today.

The whole "Superman is gay" thing is taking on new dimensions, I've read.

One faction (probably "Focus on Family" or someone of that ilk) is latching onto the "Superman is gay" theme and urging followers not to see the movie. Another faction is describing Superman as "heaven-sent", or as someone sent by God to help mankind.

Maybe those two factions will rip each other to shreds and leave the rest of us to enjoy the story about comic book characters.
