Heading to Vegas next week. I'd rather not look like a beached white whale (yes I am overweight. I asked the lady who cuts my hair if she had a spray tan product she'd recommend that wouldn't turn me orange. She said they did spray tans at her salon. She said it would look very bronze when you first get it applied, but over night it would turn into a light tan. I think she said it would only last 4-5 days. Any recommendations?

Find out how easily it comes off on white sheets. That's not a reminder of your visit you want to leave.

I joined a tanning place last year at this time and got a spray tan so I could be tan right away. I loved it. I just couldn't belive how good it looked. They said it would start to fade after about a week, so I got another coat at the end of a week. I think it was too soon after the first coat. The pigment seemed to get in my pores, cuz I broke out with zits after the second one. I did it one more time and decided I was done with spray tans. It's amazing how people reacted to me with this deep tan. We spent the weekend in Nevada City and everywhere we went women flirted with me. It was fun.

For vegas? Dont bother, dont be self conscious.

In general, every imaginable attire, grooming choice, accessory is on display. And as a tourist city, there are plenty of pale bodies at the pool.

It can be a furnace. Invest instead in excellent sunscreen and a hat or two. No one's going to judge your skin-tone.

I'd be really careful. I'm really pale too. I went to one of the "best in the city" places a few years back, and while it looked good overall, there were still some streaks. (I exfoliated ahead of time, as the salons recommend.) Another problem is that it took weeks to wear off, and it looked really bad during that time. And yes, it definitely comes off on white clothes. I have a feeling airbrush tanning works better on those who have some color to begin with.

It's been a few years since I went, so maybe the technique has improved since then. If you decide to do it, look at yelp reviews and definitely scrub beforehand.

Wow! Talk about a difference of opinions. I discussed the issue at length with the lady at the salon. She said the bronze wears off overnight. I asked her if she thought I should go ahead and try it and she thought I should. This was a friend telling me this, not just beautician trying to sell me something. Hey, why not try it once and see for myself? Thanks for all the info.

At the risk of being cynical (which I freely admit that I am), the person in the salon would OF COURSE say you should try it. That way, she earns some money.

Now that's out of the way, you could ask whether it's possible to get only some small part of you spray-painted, er, spray-tanned first. Perhaps a patch on your thigh or chest. Then you can see what it will look like in comparison to the rest of you. If you like it, then you can go for the whole thing.

Assuming you do go through with it, don't forget that you still can get sunburn. Wear sunblock accordingly.

There may be different products out there. The stuff that I got does rub off on clothes and sheets the first day. After that, it doesn't. It gradually fades, but even after a week, I was still visibly tan. At the end of a week, I went in for a second application. On top of what was left of the first application, I was a deep brown. It looked great and lasted for a couple weeks at least. There was some streaking on my legs. Newer equipment minimizes the streaking. Actually, the only reason I don't do it again is because the second application made me break out in zits, I suppose from obstructed pores.

The picture of Trump made me think twice about tanning, but my friend at the salon assured me it would look natural. Hell, no one would know me anyway....except my escort and I'm paying him to like me. Someone suggested I stop being so self-conscious about myself. He's SO right. I need to work on that.

I think you should get the spray tan. I loved the way I looked with it. I didn't delude myself thinking that it looked like a natural tan. I even thought that question through. I liked it so much, I was considering doing it all the time, and I asked myself, "But what if people think I'm shallow?" My partner pointed out, "Some people will, but who cares?"

I did it! I got the spray tan and boy do I look like a stud! Seriously, I went ahead and did it last night. I got sprayed, went home, put an old sheet on the bed in case some of the crap rubbed off, watched TV, then feel asleep. After several hours I turned "bronze". 12 hours later took a shower to wash off the bronze and became this beautifully tan...….hairy, over weight old man! Actually, it looks pretty decent, and it has boosted my confidence. I feel better about my appearance. I'm ready for Vegas!

  • 2 weeks later...

The toes! The toes! The one day I used the pool at the Wynn and I'm sitting there enjoying the sun and the breeze cooling off the 108 degree heat and I notice my toes. I didn't rinse them off well enough so they were kind of splotchy. Oh well, my escort didn't seem to mind. Had a great time!

I didn't notice any real problem with my sheets, though I found an old sheet and laid it over the good sheets. I'd do it again.

The first day, some came off on the sheets, but it washed right out. After that, there was no problem with the sheets
