Putin still calls St. Petersburg by its Soviet name.

This is really interesting, I know he was born there in 52, but I didn’t know he hadn’t’accepted the new name. Where did you read this, if you remember?

My google-fu fails me on this one, only brings “Putin was born in Leningrad” articles.

Not sure, probably the New York Times. The article was about Putin's liking Chris Wallace upcoming (then) visit to Petersburg.

What would be really odd would be if someone called in Petrograd.

For me, one of the transformational moments was when Russia reverted the name of Leningrad to St Petersburg and the Russian navy commissioned a ship called Пётр Великий (Peter the Great).
