I would agree with your your logic. The closest one can get to 1/3 is 32.81 under the right circumstance. Though, I think that is close enough that one can say they are 1/3.

Kevin has a point. Genetics research suggests that we homo sapiens are exceptionally good at two things, traveling and having sex. Its very likely that many of us have more ethnic diversity than we realize, and I supposed its possible if you add up all the world traveling and fucking of your ancestors you could have a mix that is approximately 33% something.

 

In terms of ethnic identification, 3 of my grandparents are Norwegian and 1 is Czech. Both my parents were blond and blue-eyed, but my dad used to tease my Mom -- the half Czech parent -- that her slightly almond shaped eyes were probably due to Genghis Khan being one of her ancestors. The whole Mongol horde thing. When I had my DNA analyzed, the results show I'm 99.9% European and .1% East Asian. My sibs and I now joke that Dad was right!

Kevin, I think what Marylander40 is saying that if you have an ancestor which is of mixed race, then consider the ancestor's ancestors, who will be among *your* ancestors. Assuming that all humans are formed from the DNA of two people, (which is even true of artificial fertilization), then ultimately when you add up the fractions, you will get something over a power of 2 and that can never sum up to 1/3 or 2/3rds. You can get arbitrarily close, but it still won't be exactly 1/3.
