I've given this some thought and have talked to bottoms about this... How can you know for yourself what you are? I did this to get more clarity about myself (I had a while where I was trying to become vers, documented on these forums by the way, hahaha). What I noticed is that bottoms told me they get completely sexually satisfied and fulfilled when bottoming and when topping it gives them almost no pleasure at all. Their first thought when they are turned on is "fuck me".

 

When a bottom told me that I realized I really am a top: because I have all the same feelings, just in reverse. Topping a guy is so completely wholly satisfying to me while the times I've bottomed it was never as pleasurable and certainly not satisfying. Please forgive my defensive response. You appeared to be reading some unstated position into what I had said, and the over-the-top prior response about bigotry and not accepting people had me loaded for bear.

 

I don't know if there's a definition of a "true top." I don't think bottoming disqualifies a top from being a top -- I could spend paragraphs exploring my opinion of the nuances between total top, versatile top, and versatile as well as the reasons why someone might bottom and still be classified as a top or mostly top. I'm a total bottom and a pleaser. I've topped, but only when it's been expected of me -- it's not something I seek out for myself. I get a big charge out of the (often unattainable) ideal of an uncompromising top seeking his own pleasure.
