Sounds like you are respected by your colleagues. Just because you are leaving a bad environment does not mean you cant serve gay kids at another location. Please stay in the profession. -

In a non-gay environment, I have never made the first move. However, several times I have been approached. Like Lucky, one was a flight attendant (we ended up getting together many times), and the others were at the gym. I was not willing to play at the gym, so the overtures never resulted in getting together.

I found that it took me several attempts at various venues until I started to enjoy the scene. I wouldn’t overwork where to start but rather jump in every chance you get! If you have dogs, you may want to select a type that is scratch resistant. I had one home with soft wood floors that were not compatible with owning a dog.

You make a good point that one should realize this is always a possibility when hiring. The key in my mind is to not expect an emotional attachment from your provider. I have seen that most on this forum have had good experiences as well as some bad ones. When starting I would find a provider with great reviews and go in with realistic expectations. Best wishes.
