  1. THE RENT BOYS OF PARESIS HALL, NEW YORK CITY IN THE 1890s The top picture shows the various ‘Renters’ (Sex Workers) in a group photograph. The tangle of implements, I suppose, are designed to give them an air of respectability. The pictures of individual boys are the calling cards to give to clients. The final picture shows Paresis or Columbia Hall in recent years. The Hall served as a all male brothel and gay bar for some years. Due to it’s ever increasing popularity it was closed down by the city authorities.
  2. Ruppert, a pimp in Paris in 1900. He would usually be on the look-out for men for his clients, the boys of Paris’s male brothels.
  3. 114 rue d’Aboukir in the 2eme arrondissement of Paris, in 1895, was a male brothel. These two young Parisians prostitutes, were at risk of being beleaguered by the perils of Absinthe drinking, that could lead to euphoria, addiction, depression and madness. They look like they are smartly dressed to attract rich gentleman clients.

  13. Recruiting sergeants outside the Mitre & Dove, King Street, London in 1877. Soldier could also usually be depended upon to give a gentleman a good time for a couple of bob (£9.00 in todays money) I also found this quote: As well as recruiting the young men of the time into the British Army, it was common practice among soldiers to be bought by rich gents for a couple of bob (shillings)

  15. I wondered the same thing but I always found others that told me of places that were "cool" and gave no problems. Plus many of these photos were taken by gay photographers which probably developed their own film in their studios. While traveling I've never developed film abroad if I've taken risque photos. Thank technology for cell phones and memory sticks that we no longer have to send rolls of film out to be developed.
  16. Good eye! Thanks for pointing those things out! Some of them I trust what's posted when found while others I do the research because the info doesn't seem right. Thanks, I'll correct the post!
