  1. I don't think that most reputable financial advisors care about your sexual orientation, only about your financial resources and your objectives. In northern California, it would be hard for any financial advisor to avoid having gay clients, and it would probably be illegal to turn down a client because he was gay. Our financial advisors have always been straight men in the Philadelphia outer suburbs.
  2. I got lost in memories as I read through the list of names of those on the Key West memorial, which included the names of three men I had known when I was young and carefree, and didn't even realize had died of AIDS. That's what a memorial should do. Rest in peace, Mitty, Larry and Ken.
  3. Someone needs to tell him that he accidentally put his pants on backwards!
  4. I honestly can't remember the last time I had a morning erection--probably about fifty years ago.
  5. It doesn't suggest ANYTHING to me, which is why I think it fails as a memorial.
  6. I know of at least two active members of this forum whose story is similar to yours. One of the now-deceased members here was a good friend of mine who didn't become actively gay until he was a grandfather; he managed to maintain his close relationships with his wife, grown children and other family members, so I know it can be done, even though it is not necessarily easy. He also managed to integrate some of his close gay friends with his straight family--his daughter and I shared his power of attorney for his health directives. He admitted to me that there were days when he wished he could still be the "normal" husband and father that he once was, yet he realized that he was who he was, and it was a relief to be that whole person. I hope that others here who share your kind of history will contact you. I also lived for many years in Philadelphia, so I agree with Marylander's suggestion that you get to know the local organizations. The Mazzoni Center is named for Peter Mazzoni, a friend of mine who was active in AIDS organizations in the 1980s, and who died of AIDS. You may also want to check out the William Way Community Center for possible contacts. I have been gone from PA for 20 years, so I don't have any up-to-date information.
  7. Love the aspirational t-shirt!
  8. His latest review is from PeneAmpio, who rarely posts but who has been a member of this site for 20 years.
  9. I think he is guilty of age-shaving in the ad.
  10. Well, you have to admit that he is "ripped."
  11. I decided in my late 40s that I wanted to learn to play the piano, and I took lessons for a couple of years with a teacher from the Curtis Institute in Philly. However, I realized that I would probably never learn how to play well enough to play the classical music I enjoyed listening to, so when I was going to Europe to work for a year, I had an excuse to stop the lessons. When I got back to Philly, I thought about starting again, but for practical reasons I had to get rid of my piano, so that was the end of my musical ambitions. When I retired, someone persuaded me to start learning how to play tennis, and I got hooked. Now tennis is my only serious hobby.
  12. I am sitting here looking at an Hiroshige print on the wall that I bought in Kyoto many years ago. Hiroshige was a prolific Japanese artist of the early 19th century, who painted landscapes. My print is 7"x 8" and was an ideal souvenir to bring home, because it weighs nothing and was easy to pack; I had it framed after I got home. Of course, you could probably buy the print more easily online today, but it would just be another piece of art, not something that reminded you of your actual visit to Japan and where you purchased it.
  13. Our doctor got the new flu vaccine a couple of weeks ago, so we went to him and got it then. I am waiting to hear from him about if and when he will have the new COVID available, or where he recommends we go to get it.
  14. I wonder why there is an ad on the new RM format when he hasn't logged in for 14 yrs?
  15. Either the height or the weight has to be incorrect. When I was 20 years old I was also 5'8," but even though I was considered very skinny (I had a 27 inch waist), I weighed 130 lbs.
  16. Jason Markus may have been the most handsome man I ever hired.
  17. Does ubiquitous mean he will show up at the PS Weekend?😛
  18. It certainly looks like a Nova, but can't tell the date.
  19. I have Spectrum cable bundled with Internet, and though it's expensive, it really provides all that I ever feel like watching--especially now that they have settled their dispute with Disney. However, my HOA is negotiating with Frontier for a deal that would include all residents of our 55+ community for a lower cost than Spectrum. I am waiting to hear what happens with that before I make any moves. (I have had Frontier for my landline phone for years, and have never been impressed with their service.)

In case anyone cares, the site of the El Mirador Hotel is now the location of Desert Regional Medical Center.
  21. I had an older second cousin Fred, a school teacher in his early 30s, who was very active as a scout master. He suddenly resigned from the scouts in the mid-1950s, and shortly afterwards married a woman teacher friend. Everyone seemed surprised not only at the marriage but also at his split from the BSA. I was surprised at the marriage, because I had suspected that he was gay. Then I overheard my parents talking about a rumor in his family that he had been accused of having some kind of intimate relationship with a teenage scout during one of the national jamborees, which led to his resignation. His marriage lasted forty years and was apparently happy, but it never appeared to be a love match, and they never had children. Late in my life, I became quite friendly with his widow and one of her friends, also a widow, and putting together subtle suggestions, I got the impression that the friend's late husband and my cousin had some sort of special bond. My cousin Fred was known in the community as a World War II hero--he was part of the landing on the beach on D-Day and fought in France--and he eventually became principal of a local high school. Also, one of my mother's brothers had a career as an executive in the BSA. But I never showed any interest in scouting as a child, and my parents never encouraged me to join the scouts. Looking back, I wonder why.

  23. I thought of that, too, but very few airline staff who fly regularly would be based in Virginia Beach/Norfolk, which is not a hub for any commercial airline that I know of. However, it is an important base for the military.
  24. This is a typical full set. I find the larger ones especially useful in places where I have larger gaps between two teeth at the gum line. Floss works better where teeth are tight against one another.
