Hot New (Gay) Hockey Series on CRAVE: Heated Rivalry
+ Gar1eth replied to dutchal's topic in TV and Streaming services
Spoiler Episode 6 When Shane went out to talk to his mother -geez I'm tearing up now thinking about it (but I tear up a lot lately at the stupidest things). Shane says, " I tried." He's obviously talking about he tried to be straight. That really hit me. I personally never really tried because I didn't have it in me. But I wished with all my heart I was straight. When I came out to my siblings 13 years ago, I did it by email. It was after a major reversal in my life that still has repercussions to this day. But I couldn't face telling my mother. My sister offered to. And I gratefully accepted. When I saw my mother shortly after that, she immediately hugged me. I've still never publicly said anything to my adult nieces and nephews or my cousins. I doubt they care. But I do have one very conservative niece-in-law. I've never had a significant other. I wonder if I ever do have one whether that's going to throw a monkey wrench into family gatherings. At the time I came out to my siblings, my father was still alive. But he had fairly severe Alzheimer's dementia. We weren't sure if he would have understood. If he understood, whether or not it would have made him angry . And whether if we told him one day, whether he'd remember the next. So we made a decision not to tell him. That did hurt. I wasn't close-close to my father-but he loved me. And I loved him. But it was my own fault for being such a chickensh*t over the years. At the point I partially came out, as regards my father, what was best for him was vastly more important than my needs. As of today, I'm more accepting of my being gay than I ever thought I'd be. Maybe someday I'll be totally accepting. But that statement of Shane's definitely struck right through to my heart. PS: It would probably help a lot on my accepting if I had either Connor Storrie or Hudson Williams as a boyfriend. -

I just finished episode 6. I thought it moved on the slow side to begin with. But maybe I'm just tired as I finished it about 15 minutes ago. And it's now 1:22 AM. So minor spoiler-I'll space it down so people can avoid if they want. Shane and Ilya finally meet for their one on one time. Both of them are nervous. Shane more externally nervous. While this is fiction, it put me in mind of my first overnight with an escort. I had only been hiring about a year at that point. Thank gosh for The Review Site in helping me choose. I had tried several guys. One guy that I was interested in was the porn star Sam Tyson-blond and athletically muscular was definitely my type. But I think he was busy when I would have wanted him. This was back in 2003. Hooboy was still with us. At that time there were two escorts out of Baltimore/DC area. A couple. I can't remember their escort names. And one has since died of cancer. The other as far as I know is still alive but not escorting. The one who died had kind of burly daddy coach/woodcutter look. I still remember a picture of him on the Review Site wearing a cap, a plaid loggers shirt with the sleeves torn off. I was attracted to him. I think he advertised as versatile but seemed more of a top But his partner was more classically good looking and athletic. Maybe not so intimidating to me -not like his partner with the coach look. So I chose the athletic partner. In those days I had a career. And a group from my company was attending a convention in Orange County. We were all staying at one hotel. But we were coming in a day before the convention. I made some excuse and booked a different hotel from the rest of the group for one night. So here I was. I flew the escort in from probably Baltimore to John Wayne Airport in Orange County. I was so nervous. He had a stellar reputation. But what if he no-showed. Or on the other hand what if he actually showed up. I think i remember somehow getting past security to get back at the gate area even though I didn't have a ticket. I waited for the escort's plane. He did make it. He came off the jetway. I think I followed him to baggage claim and then introduced myself. It ended up being a good meeting. I was sorry it was just overnight. I believe we ended up having two more overnights together before he quit advertising -
In the words of Yoda-there is no ..... Actually I hope you have a great time. And we're all on the edge of our seats waiting t to read what you can share.

My preference is to keep it as far from my rear as possible. The next county over is a great STARTING point.

I start new insurance January 1st. So I had to get it done. I had my first post-op surgery today. In my practice, the ophthalmologist does the preop evaluation and the magic of surgery. Then the follow-ups are by optometrists. They didn't explain that that first time. I was surprised I wasn't seeing the surgeon. Anyway the optometrist who saw me today for follow-up said I had minimal inflammation. Interestingly enough after the first surgery, I felt good for about 1-1/2 hours. My family and I went out to a local restaurant for lunch. But as lunch ended I started feeling a bit nauseous. I went back home and went to sleep. I was fine when I woke up. Yesterday I told the nurse anesthetist beforehand about the nausea. So she gave me some IV anti-nausea medicine. But when I came out of the sedation for the procedure, I had a headache and felt nauseated immediately. So I went home and to bed immediately. I slept about 4 hours and was fine. My surgeon said because of some retinal abnormality I couldn't get a multifocal lens. So she put in distance lenses. It's very strange after having been near-sighted since I was 12 to need glasses to see up close. Overall I'm very happy with the surgery-new vision for a new year!!

Why would Meredith reply back to a guy speaking Italian in Russian-badly accented or not? Did you by chance mean Shane answering back? -
I know you probably won't see this. But on the vanishingly small chance you do, thank you for how nice you always were the few times we met. I hope this is a great year for you.

I've just watched Episode 5 for about the third or fourth time. Ilya's monologue, even in Russian, gets to me. And the last scene while Shane and his family are watching the game, as well as Ilya and his teammates-Shane and Ilya's emotions get to me too. I'm glad Scott has a chance to be happy too. -
Ok the following comes with a warning. It's about going down on a woman. I know some of y'all have. I haven't ever. So I've no dog in this fight. I was going to suggest Mike Gaite too from personal experience. And by report Kristian Elix in California has always had satisfied clients. I'd stay far away from ClassicColt.

As I recall, my first watch was a gold Timex that cost $12.95 circa 1970. My parents gave it to me for Hanukkah. I was thinking I was in the third grade. But that seems awfully young. On the other hand I had had trouble with telling time, but once I actually had a watch to wear-I was fine. So maybe it was third grade after all. Addendum-it probably was third grade. I just flashed to a memory of the following February/March. A friend and I didn't know it was a standard 31 day calendar, and we were laughing about how I had to get past 29-31 to get back to 1. I think if I had been older than 9, I would have understood the mechanism better.

I won't dispute that the writing isn't Tolstoy. But I do disagree that the two leads are embarrassingly bad. Again I'll concede that neither is Larry Olivier. But for example Connor Storie's reveal of his feelings in episode 5-even in Russian was quite emotional. Also my grandfather was Russian-well Belarusian-he's been gone since 1980-so it's difficult to remember now. But I think he sounded somewhat similar to Connor with Connor's character not having the advantage my grandfather had of being accustomed to speaking English for over 50 years. And take Hudson Williams-I've read some of Shane's character bio online. And while they've probably toned it down a great bit for TV, he's doing a great job of showing how regimented Shane's life is. And how afraid he is of his feelings causing it all to come crashing down. I think they are both hot-although I found Hudson's instagram. There were some photos of him wearing jewelry and smoking. I'm one of those weird guys who doesn't like the appearance of most jewelry on men-and even some on women. It decreased my level of attraction to him. I'm glad he isn't looking like that in the series. -

This made me start to think back to how long I've been contributing here. I have a vague memory of reading The Review Site and most likely the Message Center with a very jaundiced view. Don't get upset. That wasn't a moral judgement by any means. I used a computer monitor that was on the way to going out for years before I had to replace it. And the screen had a strong yellow tinge going on. So that would have been around 1998-27 years ago. I honestly can't remember how I first came across the Review Site or the Atkol Forums. Was the Message Center-or I believe as it was called then-The Forum-started at around the same time as the Review Site, or were they separated by a significant amount of time? But back to the question posed in the title of this thread-I'm going to be in big trouble if they investigate my phone. I have two hidden vaults (although one is basically a copy of the other), and there's no way to lock the pictures I've sent on some websites like Adam4Adam or on some apps like Scruff other than just the general code you have to put in to unlock the phone. I hope my family will be charitable if they are the ones unlocking the phone. -
I'm trying to remember how long I've been a member- whether or not I started before I stopped hiring. Well, I tried to remember. And I can't. In any case I don't look at a lot of porn. My $9 a month lets me see some of the locked photos and videos. So I'll keep it.

I'm not sure whether I should place this here or in The Lounge, but here goes... I was looking at Rent.Men without being logged in-just by accident. There were some locked pictures which it said I could have access to all locked photos for a $19 dollar membership. I am a paid member. But I only pay $9+ per month. Did I miss a notice? Is the membership going up in price soon?

I have some more questions about the series. 'Everyone' is talking about the groundbreaking sex scenes. And I have to admit to not going back and comparing- but I'm hoping someone else is more familiar- but are these scenes really more groundbreaking/revealing than what the American Queer As Folk did back in 2000? I probably need to go back and re-watch QAF. It came on while I was still a virgin and mostly thinking I'd never have sex ever. I do remember the first episode somewhat. Brian takes Justin's virginity. I don't think they showed much. But they turned up the sound on the scene really loud. I actually-now remember I was a total virgin and scared of sex -esp bottoming (come to the think of it, my feelings about bottoming haven't changed a lot in the ensuing 25 years)-but it made a bit nauseous. And I had to turn the TV off. It took me a while to get back into the series. Another thing I'd like to know is if Shane has ever made love successfully with a woman. And as a final thought -I really like the character of Rose. She seems like a really nice person. -

I have a question about Episode 5. It's a minor point but Spoiler Alert for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Earlier in the episode Shane was hit by a Boston player named Marleau. But later on at the end of the episode during the New York Admiral's game, the on-air announcer refers to a New York player named Marleau. I wondering if it's supposed to be the same Marleau-do trades happen during the season? Or it could be a different Marleau. Or maybe it's just a mistake? -

From The Onion: Hockey Players Blast ‘Heated Rivalry’ For Unrealistic Depiction Of Anal Sex ‘When We Fuck Each Other, That’s Not How It Goes Down,’ Say NHL Athletes Published: December 19, 2025 TORONTO—Accusing the HBO drama of egregiously misrepresenting their experiences off the ice, the National Hockey League Players’ Association blasted Heated RivalryFriday for what it described as incredibly unrealistic depictions of anal sex between players. “The show’s portrayals of hockey players having sex with each other are wildly misinformed, and we are disappointed by the producers’ utter failure to accurately represent what we do to each other behind locker room doors on a daily basis,” read a statement cosigned by each of the NHLPA’s more than 750 active players, adding that the series’ glitzy, overwrought lovemaking scenes miss the mark on even the most basic details regarding the day-in, day-out sexual encounters that define their lives between games. “Yes, it’s true that we as professional hockey players spend the majority of our free time cramming our cocks into each other’s hot, hungry assholes—the show gets that right. But beyond that, every instance of anal sex you see on screen is pure fiction. It’s clear they didn’t bother consulting any actual hockey players, as the butt-fucking on the show could not be further from what really occurs.” The statement went on to say that while the show’s anal sex scenes are “ludicrous,” its depictions of oral sex between hockey players are pretty much spot-on. -

I don't know. It's not my favorite. But since I've occasionally met some youngish guys (or even some older 'sub-ish' type guys)-it seems to be what they want-"a daddy"- I'll go with it. The more I hear it, the more I'm adjusting to it. I may prefer "Sir," but I'm not sure. However in regards to you @PhileasFogg, you pretty much answered your own question. You have the great fortune, at least I hope it is for you, to be an actual father. Obviously the term "Daddy" means something special to you. And you explained why you don't like it. It's possible you wouldn't like the term even without your familial situation. But in your case you've already explained that being an actual Dad is the reason you don't like being called "Daddy."
