Sorry but disagree with you on this point.

Open sores can be a sign of transmittable diseases or infection (herpes, impetigo, etc). For his safety and that of future/other clients, he absolutely can say no. Even if the cause is more benign (acne), open sores can become infected or irritated from massage or oils used.

Sorry guys, I meant to write I am South Asian (autocorrects to Southeast when I reply via my phone).

It encompasses a lot of groups, but Indian is the largest population in the world and the States.

Funny that the conversation of Southeast Asians came up, because I had a conversation with a Filipino friend and said that even among Asians there is a ranking in the gay community.

Filipinos who have Spanish blood are at the top because they pass for Latino and mixed race. Then the "brown boys" aka the Vietnamese and Thai for reasons stated by other posters. They also seem to be more hung. Then the East Asians -- usually Koreans because they are taller and have more square Western features, followed by Chinese and Japanese. Then South Asians on the bottom.

Unless you are Northern Indian with a fair complexion and light eyes. They are revered on the continent and why you seem them in Bollywood.

I don't see very many Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalese out. It might be internalized fear and cultural stigma. But also knowing you are not seen as attractive hurts. I have one Indian friend who is out. He has a beautiful dark hair and brown skin. The most dazzling white smile. Many people think he is Cuban. And when he tells some suitors he is Indian they change their opinions about him. Nothing has changed from when they thought he was Cuban versus Indian. That, to me, proves racism exists.

It's why a masseur asked me if I am Muslim (there are actually lots of Muslims in India) but it is none of his business and immaterial to the massage. Another said he was glad I didn't smell like an Indian. Out of the dozen or so LA masseurs I've gone to, I would say two were outright rude, and two seemed to have "issues." So that's one third -- not a good percentage. The rest -- the majority -- have been wonderful.

This is such a touchy, delicate subject. Can one help the way one looks? It's the same.

Root cause could be diet, external applications, etc. But, it appears that there's a pattern to the smells of broad racial groups. Close eyes and you cannot say what skin color, but you can definitely discern whether the body is nubian or one of white, latin, jewish, middle eastern and the sub-continent. Sorry, zero experience with asians.

Like how someone else said, it is neither good nor bad, just different.

    These stories, man... WOW.

My worst ever massage was supposed to be legit, then turned erotic, then turned really, really uncomfortable.

I was in California for work (before I moved here) and I set up a massage at the spa in my hotel. I was 100% not looking for an erotic massage, and in fact, I really needed the therapeutic benefit for my back. I was doing a lot of work travel and being constantly shoved into a tiny airplane seat was taking its toll. The person assigned to give me the massage was a pretty average looking guy. He didn't strike me as gay and seemed very professional. He was wearing the scrub-like uniform that this spa favored and quickly ushered me into the treatment room.

We briefly discussed my back pain, agreed to go with deep pressure and he stepped out of the room so I could get comfortable under the sheet and what felt like 7 layers of heated blankets. The massage starts and I was actually feeling super uncomfortable and sweaty because of all the heat. It turns out the table was also heated. I asked him to remove some of the layers because I was getting too warm. Eventually I was just draped with the cotton sheet which was perfect.

All was going fine until it was time for me to flip over. Once I was on my back his demeanor totally changed. It was like a switch had flipped and all of the sudden he was like super lax about draping, and kind of made these sex kitten noises while massaging me. Then he started adding somewhat erotic flourishes to the massage. I'm human, and so my cock got hard. And I'm a leaker. Now all of the sudden I'm leaking through the sheet. My boner is clearly visible under the sheet and the wet spot isn't doing anything to hide it.

The guy then slides his hand under the sheet and grabs my cock and jerks me off. However he had his eyes closed tightly, like super tightly clenched, and even is he didn't he wasn't even really facing towards my body, and he never pulled back the sheet. He seemed so afraid of my dick.

Anyhow, I blow my load and he sort of silently starts freaking out as soon as my cum touches his hand. He begins silently mouthing "OH MY GOD, I'M GOING TO LOSE MY JOB" and "I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED" and... "I NEED TO GO TO CHURCH". Uhhhh... OK. Then, he starts crying and sort of hitting himself in the head and calling himself "dirty and stupid" and saying shit like "help me Jesus". Meanwhile I am laying on the table slicked in sweat, cum-covered sheet stuck to me and really unclear what was going to happen next, but trying to console him, while figuring out where my robe is so I can get the fuck outta there.

I end up standing up, totally nude and saying (in a forceful whisper) "pull yourself together, work through whatever it is you're doing on your own time. Escort me back to the lockers, NOW." Which I guess is what he needed to get back on track. I got dressed fearing there was going to be a manager or security waiting for me on checking-out of the spa, but everything was totally fine.

Still one of the weirdest interactions in my life.

I am Indian and have been asked by masseurs if "I smell."

Yes, my culture does cook with a lot of spice, curries, onions, etc. But guess what? I am not eating curries or dal daily. I eat salad.

I'm fairly smell sensitive so I'm aware of what my culture "smells" like. I have an aunt whose house is filled with wonderful spices but the fragrance can be overpowering (she cooks with and stores spices).

I do think some white people have a distinctive scent, as some Latino and some black men do. Others find the musk of sweat appealing. I prefer the smell of Irish Spring more and request that guys always shower before a hook up. Or better, we just hook up in the shower.

I agree that I don't think Asians have a discernable scent. My buddy and I workout and he actually smells sweet (he is Asian).

I have a lot of different responses to this post.

@bostonman you mentioned meeting the Uber in a "safe spot" and it was cold and dark. Perhaps you were subconsciously a bit more on edge.

You did the right thing for you, and maintained your safety while not being rude.

He's probably a colleague or someone in your department. Does your school have an online directory? Back in college (which is many years ago for me), I'd look up my crushes in the directory or MySpace (I know, totally dating myself). I didn't think it creepy, I wanted to know more about them and their interests. And also, to suss out if they were gay or not.

Living in LA, there are tons of hot guys around. It's not uncommon to hear guys complimenting each other. "Are you an actor? Are you a model?" It would actually be weirder if someone prefaced it with, "I'm straight but..."

I have some co-workers that are the straightest straight guys. We once had a very handsome client come in and even afterwards they joked "that's the most handsome man ever to walk in here."

At the spa there may be some flirtation going on or again, just a compliment. There's a guide who I told, "You look like Chris Hemsworth" (he actually does). He said thanks and have several conversations since. No awkwardness even though we're shirtless.

At same said spa, one time a guy came and sat perpendicular to me in the sauna. Removed his towel. Ended up making small talk -- and I notice he has a sizeable semi literally pointing straight at me.

We head over to the steam. Sit pretty far apart but he's still "pointing" at me. Gives off total straight vibes. A few minutes in I muster up the courage to say, "you're a great looking guy." To which he said thanks and we chatted for perhaps 20 minutes more. Nothing came of it.

To go up to someone and admit you find them attractive is probably more nerve-wracking than receiving the compliment. But again, if you felt unsafe, then you did the right thing for you.

Final story, my handsome friend has been dating his average looking boyfriend for almost a decade. My friend was waiting on his table and was complimented and asked out. So you ever know.

New to this board (discovered this post-CL) and laughed at these stories.

    Mine is funny (and painful).

I visited a masseur in NYC. It was the winter, and I went to his place in an old walk-up. Because we don't have those old school heaters, I didn't know what it was. After my massage I was still nude and we were making small talk. I was getting dressed and sat on the heater, badly burning my rear. I yelped and grabbed a pipe on a wall, which was also burning hot. It was like an "Itchy and Scratchy" cartoon. I left with burns on my butt and hand.

When I contact POC, I never say anything about my race before showing up, however if it's a white guy I tend to let them know up front. This way no one's time is wasted. I'd hate to show up somewhere and the guy decides not to answer the door, look disappointed, or have a bad attitude.

There's a concentration of m4m masseurs and spas in Weho (West Hollywood) and Beverly Hills.

There are definitely masseurs downtown, but not as many as the above cities.

If you are working downtown, I'd recommend staying there. Could you change hotels to Weho on Friday and bookend a weekend? That would give the convenience of being close to work and then free you for the weekend in Weho.

Hollywood has a lot of providers as well but a bit more of a tourist trap. Koreatown has a lot of gay friendly spas.
