Hopefully once the tests become prevalent some travel will return upon proof of test. Also, once the antibody test comes many people will learn they have probable immunity and can venture out.

What would you do with $2,000+ in flight Credits
+ tassojunior replied to + VictorPowers's topic in The Lounge
What happens to partially-used roundtrips? Friends have a return left to Europe in late May on American that originated in Europe. I guess driving to the airport and talking to a desk wizard is the best method if social media fails. -

American is flying Miami to LAX for $34 roundtrip. JetBlue is $26 RT. Buy up a whole plane and stretch out. https://viewfromthewing.com/13-cross-country-airfares-but-why-are-airlines-pricing-below-marginal-cost/ -
Trump many quarantine NY off from US today : "We might not have to do it but there's a possibility that sometime today we'll do a quarantine — short term [for] two weeks," he said. https://news.yahoo.com/trump-considering-quarantine-york-164649982.html

Just back from trying to go to my Trader Joes a block away. They have a new policy of only 40 people in the store at a time and there was a line of 100 waiting to be admitted at 5pm on friday. The door guard said this was normal the past 2 days all day. 4 restaurants on both sides of Trader Joes have now shut down and boarded up with plywood. So has West Elm. Very depressing for a vibrant urban neighborhood to die out. And yet yesterday we were able to drive to the downtown WalMart by the Capitol and to Harris Teeter grocery close to it and everything was perfectly normal. My dentist called in the am to say my cleaning was canceled because of the lockdown, and in the pm she rescheduled it for monday as they got approval as essential. All liquour stores around me are open as essential. For hundreds of miles west of DC there are virtually no cases. North and east of DC to NY it's becoming the world hotspot. Totally random how this lockdown is hitting and how "indefinite".

Aldi is so cheap that it's delivery with InstaCart justifies the delivery cost. (The 1st 3 are free). The one in DC is across town so it's worth the delivery. If DC starts to get Mad Maxy I'm getting Instacart deliveries. Grocery stores are contagion hotspots. https://www.aldi.us/en/about-aldi/faqs/grocery-delivery-pickup/

What's your daily routine like now in the age of COVID-19

I planned well. -
I have plenty and WalMart is in every delivery getting more TP and huge $3 bottles of HS. I have also gotten as much rubbing alcohol as I can and small spray bottles with caps. I place the bottles around doorknobs outside, in the car for handles, etc, in my pocket for grocery cart handles etc. and try to squirt first whatever I touch as much strange as possible. Also paper money. mail, and Amazon boxes. CV virus lives on cardboard up to 24 hours !. I'm also pro-OdoBan spray as I've mentioned. Hand sanitizer is just another form of disinfectant but the hardest to find.

Last week I saw an otherwise-empty paper aisle in a store that had 3 4-packs of cheap single-ply Scott toilet paper no one would buy. I got them and gave them to each apartment I rent as "emergency" backups so they won't be tempted to flush anything else that might clog drain pipes.
-
A huge part of the problem is that we have not shifted to home grocery delivery before now. I order a lot of staples from Amazon but have avoided InstaCart etc as I like the daily grocery visit. As contagious as CV is, visits to the grocery store are swims in the virus pool. The deep end of the virus pool.

Thanks. I was lucky to choose who to quarantine with.

update: I went back to my Trader Joes (block away) 3 hours later after the mob left and the store was fully stocked including a shelf of fine quality toilet paper that no one of the 40 people in the store were interested in ! And then I stopped in my Ace Hardware and it had a rack of 100 masks with valves for $8.99 no one was buying. It's completely random.

That's very encouraging that only 10% tested are positive in Nevada. It provides hope that percentage may hold or start to go down with mass testing, at least in Nevada, until we get like Wuhan where no new cases are happening.

Outsider and Westworld.

OMFG, nothing will be more unbearable than Rand Paul with the virus. We now get the right-wing spin on the virus with a celebrity. Blame it on the Federal Reserve !
-
It's mostly random. This morning Trader Joes had capacity in the store at 9am and had a line down the sidewalk waiting to be let in as people went out. Safeway 3 blocks away was fully stocked and almost no customers. The Whole Foods by me has always been over 50% Instacart and random. Grocery stores are possibly the most dangerous contagion places most of us go now. I need to start mostly delivery.

Cute Critters to Take Our Minds Off Everyday Stresses

From what I understand the infection will hit 75% too soon with no social controls and the idea is to distance the 75% infection out to July so as to not overwhelm hospitals etc too soon and bide a couple more months for drugs, ventilators etc. Angela Merkel says 60%-70% of Germans will be infected. But whether it's to not ever get or to postpone getting the methods are the same. It's the easy contagion factor of Coronavirus that is so damn scary. Also, since contagion eventually is probable, boosting your immunity is incredibly important. Here's a short NYT snippet on the subject. Relax, don't stress.: Can I Boost My Immune System? Fears about coronavirus have prompted online searches and plenty of misinformation about how to strengthen the immune system. Here’s what works — and what doesn’t. By Tara Parker-Pope The immune system is a complex network of cells, organs and tissues that work in tandem to protect the body from infection. While genetics play a role, we know from studies of twins that the strength of our immune system is largely determined by nonheritable factors. The germs we are exposed to over a lifetime, as well as lifestyle factors like stress, sleep, diet and exercise all play a role in the strength of our immune response. The bottom line is that there is no magic pill or a specific food guaranteed to bolster your immune system and protect you from the new coronavirus. But there are real ways you can take care of yourself and give your immune system the best chance to do its job against a respiratory illness. Lower your stress. Worries about the coronavirus, the stock market and the general disruption of life have added to our stress levels, but we know that stress also can make you more susceptible to respiratory illness. In a series of remarkable studies over 20 years at Carnegie Mellon University, volunteers were exposed to the cold virus (using nose drops) and then quarantined for observation. The researchers found that people who reported less stress in their lives were less likely to develop cold symptoms. Another series of studies at Ohio State University found that marital conflict is especially taxing to the immune system. In a series of studies, the researchers inflicted small wounds on the arms of volunteers, and then asked couples to discuss topics both pleasant and stressful. When couples argued, their wounds took, on average, a full day longer to heal than after the sessions in which the couples discussed something pleasant. Among couples who exhibited especially high levels of hostility, the wounds took two days longer to heal. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/10/well/live/can-i-boost-my-immune-system.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage

Read a couple articles on how many people are using the foster-pet services to get a roommate at least for the duration. Foster pet services usually save from high-kill pounds and they have both dogs and cats. Also many shelters are reducing staff and need fosters for the duration. Great idea for temporary company. https://wjla.com/news/local/animal-rescue-foster-families-covid-19-pandemic?fbclid=IwAR0xWX191mH-ScsrzmZmi0wV5cpOqsKjx99UbatxIPFJ_8aqNRYjnp0ePDU
