Not by much. I was there right before the pandemic. There are about 300 gay bars in Tokyo. (realize that most Tokyo bars accommodate about 12-15 people max.) Of those about 8 welcome foreigners. That number goes up to about 15 if you’re with a Japanese person. “No non-Japanese" is a sign you will see not infrequently. It is a VERY closed society and the gay community even more so. I had fun, and the bars that welcome you REALLY welcome you, but the overt racism takes some getting used to. And it’s even worse in Osaka than it is in Tokyo.

It’s a tuff call. While I enjoy being very dominant and aggressive, it’s a scene that can easily go astray. In general, I’m pretty vanilla on the first appointment. I only know of two cruise lines that routinely hire male massage therapists. Seaborn and Cunard. I’ve travelled with them and had fun. But be warned "group travel" isn’t for everyone. There will be annoying losers in your group. You will frequently have to wait around for one Queen who is chronically late. Your accommodations will be adequate but not 5 star. There will be snags and boring parts of the trip. 99% of the guys will not be hotties despite the agent’s advertisements…. After all it’s called "advertising"….for a reason.
