I agree patients should discuss this with their physicians. The only data I know of showed that only "moderately ill hospitalized patients" with COVID benefited from blood thinners. Surprisingly, patients with more advanced COVID disease in the ICU did not show a benefit from blood thinners. In fact, it may have harmed them. So much so, that the study was stopped early. I know of no guidelines that recommend it for patients who are not hospitalized. In theory, it may sound good, but medicine is often an illogical world and interventions do not always yield the expected results. Talk to your doctor. Have them help you understand the guidelines, the risks, and the benefits. Then make a decision that you and your physician feel is best for you, based on the current data and your personal wishes. There isn’t always a "right" answer.

Or not. (don’t limit him….some boys have rent to pay!)

Or in reality he’s got 4"…… grin

Damn that was intense. After reading up on the plot, watching the whole play with Mineo and Johnson must have have been rough but incredible. I hope it’s recorded and out there somewhere, but it doesn’t appear to be. Hell, I can’t even find an online source for the later film version.

President Carter under hospice care at home
+ nycman replied to CuriousByNature's topic in The Lounge
I was lucky enough to meet him briefly during and after his presidency. He was an incredibly intelligent man with a gentle soul. A true Southern Gentleman. Although not a great president, I believe history will be kind to him. -
Nice try. My point still stands and I stand by what I said. You have no knowledge of any reason that this patient was at high risk for progression to severe disease. In fact you have VERY limited knowledge about this patient at all, and yet you didn’t hesitate to insult his physician’s decision making. I’m only asking that you try to be less condescending to others in your profession. It’s doesn’t make you look smart. It makes you look like a jerk.

And I find it shocking that you’d call another physician ‘ignorant" without knowing all the facts. Actually, I’m not…with you it’s a bad habit we’ve seen many times before. As you stated, Paxlovid is indicated in patients at risk for progression to severe disease. Exactly what risk factor does this patient have? As far as I can tell, he hasn’t told us that he has one. And Paxlovid is not without it’s side effects. It’s probably a decision best left to his own physician who I imagine knows him much better than you. Less knee jerk judgement and self righteous indignation of your professional peer group would serve you well.

The exact reverse happened to me to today at the "end" of a massage. Hunky massage therapist: "dude, I just need to get banged out. Is that cool with you?" I couldn’t say "YES" fast enough. And he was right…he NEEDED it. -
In the words of Louis Armstrong: "If you have to ask…., you'll never know."

LMAO. I had the exact same response.

Although I rarely read or posted in the Political Forum, I am sad to see it go. I always thought of it as a place Daddy created to keep the puppies from pissing in the main sandbox. I also thought of it as a more "unregulated" space where people were allowed to be more free with their speech. In fact, the entire concept of "moderators" in the political forum always seemed self defeating to me. I mean, if you wander into that forum, you kind of have to accept that your going to hear (and perhaps debate) things that you don’t like. As gay men our very existence is political. As such, I am sad to see an arena for political free speech dismantled. Nonetheless, it is what it is.

Let me help you with the script… [ @sessregny opens door] Sessregny: Oh, I’m sorry I was expecting someone else. [ @sessregny closes door] End scene.

I used to go there on frequent trips to Puerto Rico. I liked it a lot. Just the right amount to "dirty”. Reminded me of NYC East Village dive bars in the early 90’s. Fun and a little sleazy. Everyone was very friendly. Like any dive bar it could be very hit or miss and trying to figure out when the "right time" to be there isn’t very easy to do. I say stop by and see if it’s the right scene for you. At most, the cover was like $5, so there’s not much to lose. I just wouldn’t plan an entire evening around it, because it could easily be a bust. Having said all that, I haven’t been to SX since the pandemic started. I was in PR a year or so ago and PR was a fucking mess. I’m pretty sure SX was still closed then. I just know I didn’t visit SX on that trip. The neighborhood is a little rough, and like I said PR in general didn’t feel very safe at the time so I didn’t venture off the property. Hell, even on property at a 5 star hotel (where I was a regular for years) was sketchy as fuck. I’m sure things are starting to "normalize" but just do your homework, and be careful.

Yep, I’d ditch that one in a heartbeat. It’s only going to get worse.

It’s still incorrect. I find that to be evil on a level that is hard to comprehend.

I have an issue with this statement. In 2020, we were still at the beginning of a declared world wide disaster. There is only one word that outranks "emergency" and that word is "disaster". Put another way, "there are no emergencies in a disaster". That’s disaster medicine 101. The paramedics did the right thing. Thankfully in this scenario they were still able to save his life. No doubt there was massive collateral damage during the COVID pandemic. Many people died that normally could have been saved. War is hell.

All the "crazy" listed above didn’t ward you off, huh?

Why don’t they ever keep their promises?
